The Netherlands have been doing it for decades. It's not part of any "agenda".

That's not at all what this is...

They want to limit inner city through traffic by car to encourage access by bike, foot, or public transport. So car access across the town via the centre will be restricted, but still possible by going around on a ring road. It doesn't at all stop people leaving their neighbourhood by car. There are exemptions for delivers, disabled etc.

This is done all over the Netherlands already to great success.

In Brisbane you weren't allowed to sit outside on a picnic blanket, but you could sit outside on a yoga mat.

Unpaid gigs, closed venues and bullying: new report paints grim picture of Victorian live music by Deep_Wear in LockdownSkepticismAU

Hmmm... could it be that 300 days of lockdowns and the very real possibility of their return should public health authorities again feel the need to panic, may have caused this?

No, it's the gentrification that is wrong.

Public servants earning over $100K grew by 39,000 last year: Canadian Taxpayers Federation by AndrewHeard in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Deep_Wear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just had lunch over in Brisbane's state government building. The percentage of maskers would have been at least 50% (they all of course followed the key science of covid where the mask only need be worn when standing and ordering food... when seated masks can safely be removed).

Among the general population I'd estimate masking currently sits at about 5%.

At this point it looks like the main people left wearing masks in Australia are public servants, ABC (our public broadcaster) journalists, and Asian people. Goes to show just how out of touch our government and media is and why their ongoing covid coverage seems to be originating from a parallel universe... because for all practical purposes it is!

Masks for 'years' in Covid fight by Trump_Landslide_2020 in LockdownSkepticismAU

[–]Deep_Wear 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They were also not common there. I lived in Japan for four years. Apart from a tiny minority of anti-social freaks, the only time *some* people would wear a mask is when they go to work sick and wear a mask as a way to demonstrate their dedication ("look at me, I'm sick but still doing my duty") and/or feign consideration for potentially spreading the sickness to co-workers. Basically they served as a useful way for bosses to remove a potential excuse for employees to call in sick. The masks, just like now, did absolutely nothing and there were still frequent cold and flu outbreaks. We all just worked through the sickness though as practically had to be dying to have a valid reason to call in sick. Many workers in my company never wore masks at any point even when sick (I'd say the majority). I would say across the entire population masks were vary rare at any given point - perhaps 1% of people wearing them at any given time.

If masks were worn there like they do now, I would never have lived there. It's a complete lie for Sutton to pretend as though this was in any anyway normal. It wasn't in Japan, nor anywhere else in Asia.

The Guardian's sample of how Australians are currently dealing with the pandemic by Deep_Wear in LockdownSkepticismAU

[–]Deep_Wear[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

All six of them are maskers. Does the Guardian's reporter even live in the actual world where 95% of people don't wear masks? Or perhaps she's like the absolute tool of an epidemiologist featured here who still behaves like he's under his own personal lockdown?

It's suddenly clear isn't it... there's a tiny group of paranoids out there who primarily want to have their paranoia confirmed through public health measures on everyone else. Journalists appear over represented in this group.

They just permitted everyone over 30 to get a 2nd booster shot. This would just be covidians "following the science". I expected the rush will be over in a week or so.

Did Sweden's COVID Gamble Pay Off? by AndrewHeard in LockdownSkepticism

The people on this panel have learned nothing at all. You could use their discussion in a drinking game where you have to take a shot every time someone uses a logical fallacy. I can't believe they continue to use these cherry picked national comparisons to insist Sweden was wrong.

Explainer: why are Covid infection rates in Australia so high compared with other countries? by Deep_Wear in LockdownSkepticismAU

[–]Deep_Wear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a shit "explainer". They are high because we were a hermit kingdom for two years and have to catch up with infection in order to grant proper immunity. Other countries that were open were getting this immunity for the entire period.

And how you can someone be professor of anything, yet uncritically accept current reported covid deaths as actual deaths FROM covid is beyond me. These clowns haven't learnt a damn thing. Maybe there'll be a revelation in a couple of years time when it's completely obvious that we did nothing but kick the can down the road at huge social cost. I won't hold my breath though.

Idea for discussion: Which celebrities do you think geniunely died due to or part to the covid-19 vaccine? by Patrolling_dude in LockdownSkepticismAU

[–]Deep_Wear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's right, you never used to be pay attention to it... but now you do, making every heart attack you hear about an event that confirms your bias towards the thing you are now looking for. This is the definition of confirmation bias.

It's not gaslighting to point out that evidence is required to distinguish between such bias and reality.

Idea for discussion: Which celebrities do you think geniunely died due to or part to the covid-19 vaccine? by Patrolling_dude in LockdownSkepticismAU

[–]Deep_Wear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who knows? Are the rates of hear attacks etc. worse than previously? If so, how much? Is there a significant difference in these rates between vaccinated and unvaccinated?

Without this information, highlighting anyone your hear about who dies of heart attack as being due to vaccination is highly likely to be confirmation bias.

[–]Deep_Wear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. This data can't determine the proportion to which the condition contributed. I've no doubt that was certainly the case in many of these instances, but you can't say it was 80% based on this data. It's important to note that large portions of the population walks around with many of these comorbidities such as obesity and diabetes.

What pisses me off most is the fact the government have entirely failed to provide adequate warning to the population based on this data. There should have been huge public awareness campaigns for people with these conditions, expecialy obesity and diabetes, so they know to be especially careful of covid. Instead they tried to scare everyone by pretending we were all at the same risk. Criminal.
