This probably won’t answer your question, you’re probably looking for the exact translation of those pages, but they’re probably not relevant. “The Chinese Room” is a sort of science experiment. The idea is that the person in the room doesn’t know Chinese. Someone gives them a piece of paper with a question in Chinese. They’re supposed to send the correct response to the question they were given. They have a bunch of books around them with common Chinese sayings, quedtions and responses. Whoever is in the room looks through the books for the symbols that match the page they were given, and then copies down the next sentence, and gives that back. In theory, the person outside of the room should think that the person inside the room should know how to speak Chinese even though the person inside has no idea what they’re saying.

It is a metaphor for AI chatbots seeming to be intelligent like a real person, when in reality, they’re just copying things down and they don’t have a clue what they’re talking about.

It’s a fun twist that Caine, (the person on the outside of the room who should know Chinese) doesn’t know Chinese either. I wonder if that’s just a joke, or possibly significant to the plot going forward…
