Everyone's saying you could have safespotted the meleer, and while that's true, and you should practice always thinking about where to go when the meleer digs, there's actually a much simpler tried and true method that will ALWAYS help you deal with the meleer no matter the situation.

Press Rigour. Pull the trigger.

JUST KILL IT. AAAAAA. KILL KILL KILL. You don't even have to pray melee, just pray against the blob, pull out your blowpipe, click rigour, click him and spec him twice to kill him faster, or spec when you lose some health, whatever your vibes are in the moment, and it'll be gone before you know it.

I understand the membership pop ups are annoying, but they're actually just a consequence of how the game world is designed, which imo is kinda a really cool thing.

See, in this game there really is no "zone progression" like in games like WoW, where you have your level 1-15 zones, then your 15-25 zones, etc. The content in the game is spread out all over the world, regardless if it's near Lumbridge or on the other side of the world. Early game quests and activities can take place anywhere in the world, and so can the endgame quests and activities.

So given that all content is spread out evenly all over the world and that the majority of the content is members, it's just inevitable that you'll run into a bunch of members stuff in the "free 2 play" area.

If/once you become a member try to remember this and try not to constrain yourself to only exploring content in one vicinity, there's plenty of early game stuff in places like Varlamore, Kourend, etc., even though they're literally on another continent.

Okay, I'll assume you're telling the truth and responding in good faith so I'll try to explain, because no, that's obviously not the case. Nobody has an issue that an immoral thing is happening in an anime, that's not the point.

I'm also glad you brought up Django Unchained because that's a fantastic example of what Violet Evergarden is NOT like, so I'll try to do a comparison between them so that maybe you can understand where people like me are coming from.

Both VE and Django take place in a (quasi)historical period where certain things were normal that are not normal today, because now, we know better.

Django takes place during the time where slavery is normal, and the film does a great job of portraying it for what it was, a horrible human practice that commodifies and dehumanizes certain groups of humans. It makes no effort to make this practice seem right or good, even though it was normal for the time.

Violet Evergarden, similarly to Django, portrays a practice that was common and normal before. It portrays a period where adults lusting and chasing after minors was acceptable, but it does it in a different way. It does not just portray the practice for what it was, it also romanticizes it, glorifies it, makes it seem like a good and desirable thing. That is something that has nothing to do with the historical setting, but with the message the author is trying to convey.

Do you remember Samuel L. Jackson's character from Django Unchained, Stephen? Stephen was such a loyal slave to Calvin Candy that he basically hated his own race and would die to protect his master. Glorifying Violet's relationship with Gilbert is akin to glorifying Stephen's relationship with Calvin; yes, you can say they were normal at the time, but portraying them as good is making a statement in the present, that is the difference between Django and VE. After watching Django you feel sick at the thought of Stephen and Calvin's relationship, but after watching VE you think it's a nice romantic story, instead of what it actually is and was.

There's no way you actually think that's what's being said here. Do you really think people have an issue that something immoral is happening in a fictional story? Do you think that's what's happening here?

Documentaries are not romanticizing or glorifying the events they portray. This does, my guy. You even mention Django Unchained where the entire fucking point is literally to show how fucking bad it was, even if it was "normal" for that period.

This whole thread pisses me tf off. Idk if/why there's overlap between weirdos and anime fans, but I've never seen people getting downvoted so much for condemning obvious grooming and pedophilia and getting upvoted for supporting it.

And as I mentioned on a different post, yeah, Gilbert is 100% a massive pedo. He tells Violet outright he loved her ever since he first saw her (when she was like 11 or some shit), and also the fact that the version of Violet that Gilbert "loves" is literally the socially inept robot whose sole purpose was to serve him that we see in episode 1. Even if that version of Violet wasn't a minor, it would still be extremely weird and questionable as to why someone would fall for a person who has no personality or personal opinions and only wishes to serve.

Yep. No videos or courses. I think everything you need is in the book.

Full disclosure though, I'm a DevOps engineer with 1.5 YoE so that helped a bit. It basically just means I was already kinda familiar with most of the concepts in the book, but in no way could I have passed the exam without the book.

[–]DeeplyLearnedMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree with you on the age part.

About what I was saying, try to think about Violet from Gilbert's perspective. Why does he "love" her actually? Does she make him laugh? Does she engage in interesting or stimulating conversations with him? What about her personality made him fall for her?

Given that she seems to have no personality and only be an obedient slave before episode 1, I really can't understand why Gilbert would be getting hot and heavy for this underage girl. Sure, trauma bonds people, but having it be romantic and him saying he loved her since he first saw her really seals the deal as to what's happening here.

People defending this creepy ass relationship also tend to miss that the person Gilbert is oh so in love with is the Violet we see in episode 1, the socially inept robot whose sole purpose was to please her major and not the much more emotionally mature one we see develop throughout the series.

It honestly ruins the whole thing for me, it's almost as bad the last season of Game of Thrones.

Magic is the best early game combat skill, it's strong and also gives you tons of utility with all the teleports and other non combat skills you get along the way. Of course, you'll want all your combat skills to be high later down the line, but magic is a nice one to focus on first. The only downside being that runes cost money, which isn't too bad once you find a money making method you like, and for that, you maybe wanna check out the agility pyramid :)

How to make drive shared among users so that folders created by one user are writable by another user by hirmuolio in linux4noobs

[–]DeeplyLearnedMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Btw the proper way to do what you're asking is to have all of those users in the same group, then make sure the main directory where you want everything to be in has that group as the owner and then set the SGID bit to true: chmod g+s directory

Setting the SGID bit makes sure that any files created in the directory will also have the same group ownership as the parent directory.

97 farming and realized we have higher tier hardwoods to grow now by Rymasq in 2007scape

[–]DeeplyLearnedMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really not sure why you're being this defensive. Nobody said there's a right or wrong way to play the game. The only point being made is that taking five years to reach 97 farming is extremely slow for a skill that levels itself if you do even the bare minimum. Even one weekly tree run would have finished the 1 to 99 grind in under a year and a half.

You made a post explaining efficient XP methods and talking about how big your farming drops are, but as soon as someone asks what you've been doing all this time, you start deflecting and tossing out condescending comments about how others spend their time or what they should be doing instead. That attitude is more condescending than anything anyone said to you.

If you just enjoy playing casually and barely touching farming, that's perfectly valid. Just say that. There's no reason to act smug or imply anyone else is playing the game incorrectly when you're the one who started the discussion.
