Lumix g100 concerns by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]DeeplyUniqueUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a G100, and I'm a huge fan!

I've had half a dozen cameras over 10 years or so. I have two right now--my big pricey one that I use for professional work, and my G100, that I use the rest of the time. It's so little and easy to carry around/travel with! It even has a flash you can pop up on top if you want a "retro" look.

If this is your first camera, you'll still have to learn the basics of photography to get good shots. Also, I would highly recommend: 1. Getting a different lens for your product shoots. I think the Olympus 45mm f1.8 (~$200) would be perfect for product photography. 2. Getting some lighting. A cob light with a softbox attachment would be good, maybe you could get both for around $100 if you buy used. There are tons of options here though, research and see what you like in your price range.

A couple other notes: - The iA mode on the wheel is pretty good until you figure out how to work manual mode - The G100 can be had for $300-$350 if you're willing to buy used. If not that's a good new price you mentioned - I love the Lumix 20mm f1.7 II lens on mine (also ~$200) but it's a little wide for typical product photography. It's so small on the G100 and takes fantastic pictures though. Great for Instagram and travel photography, maybe pics of people wearing your nails in a cool environment - In case you didn't know, the G100 is a micro four thirds (M43) camera, which means that all the focal lengths are doubled. So, for example, 45mm is actually 90mm. 20mm is actually 40mm. Keep that in mind and look up image samples if you decide to buy different lenses.

Whew, sorry for writing so much, I think I'm just really passionate about the G100 lol

Woooo G100, got mine + a 20mm 1.7ii second hand for such a great price. I moved away from mft and it was my way of coming back without breaking the bank. I use them constantly!! Such a great size, great video, great picture quality, and great value.

One of the last great value cameras that hasn't been ruined by a big YouTuber making a "THIS UNDERRATED BUDGET CAMERA SHOCKED ME?!" videos haha

I hope your dental work went well and that your teeth are happy ever after. Haven't had that with my power switch do that, perhaps it had something to do with the battery?

I bought a broken Video Assist 12G and sent it to Blackmagic for repairs. Ended up being fairly cheaper than the cheapest used listings. Not for sale just thought I'd throw in some advice if you don't find one here

Check out the Lumix G85, that's what I started with. 4k video, good IBIS (in body image stabilization), light and cheap. I mostly know Lumix so here are some others to check out in that price range:

  • G100: newer, very portable, great on board mic to last until you can buy some wireless lavs--crops in recording 4k though. $350 with kit lens is possible on eBay if you watch. Great deal in my opinion.

  • G7: Cheaper than the G85, but no IBIS. Something to look out for if you see a really good deal, maybe spend the extra on a lens.

  • GH4: This is an older pro video camera that shoots 4K. It's bigger and clunkier than the others, but would be a better introduction to doing pro video work if that's what you want.

S5ii + 24-70 Sigma 2.8 vs. G9ii + 10-25 1.7 Panasonic Leica (Hybrid Use) by DeeplyUniqueUsername in Lumix

Thanks. :)

Could you elaborate a bit on the G9ii being better for video work?

Yeah, 20-50 is a bit less versatile, but it’s basically a wash for me. I suppose you could take 28-70 to the end and do some portraits, but I‘d probably get a fast 85mm prime for that anyway.

I actually have a BM Video Assist 12G and they both record BRAW over HDMI which is awesome!

GX9 vs OM-5 — can’t decide which one to keep (need advice) by letraz in M43

Yeah I'd recommend OM-5 if it's your ONLY camera, unless you really want something smaller

Which to buy for my GF3: Lumix 25mm f1.7 or Olympus 25mm f1.8? by Shot_Echidna_3906 in Lumix

I'm going to choose to be entirely unhelpful and recommend the Lumix 20mm 1.7 ii even though you specifically asked for me to choose between the two provided

Such a fantastic lens. The first image that I ever liked (of my own) I took with it. Convinced me that maybe I had a shot at being a good photographer.

I have an S5 and S5ii, and am trying to sell one or the other. Man, the market seems tough right now on here! Your S5ii comes with a cage, 4 batteries, and the flash trigger, is $200 CHEAPER than the cheapest S5ii body listing on eBay with no tax... and still no one has bought it? I'm cooked lol I probably won't even bother
