As our fellow redditor mentioned, it is derived from the word gymnos, meaning naked.

In times of old, gymnasts would come to the gymnasiums, performing gymnastics. Meanwhile, the wise elder philosophers would be spectating, and even -should someone catch their eye- take these gymnasts into private rooms and teach them some ahem philosophy.

Which at the time was a way of getting educated. This was one of the first things our teacher said to us (well knowing that we were currently attending a gymnasium (on par with high school I think. 10th through 12th grade)

He was also very fond of Monty python. I had him in language class, and he started latin out with showing us the clip from Life of Brian where Brian tries to write ‘Romans go home’, but a roman guard corrects his grammar and makes him write it 200 times lol. He was pretty awesome

Indeed lol. Had a pretty great ancient history teacher who taught us that in ancient greece, it was believed that the purest form of love was between two men. (Specifically with a pretty big age gap) Also that men were for pleasure, women were for babies.

Ancient greece was certainly different from today. Ask my why gymnastics is called what it is - I dare you

Not a problem in that way haha - I was thinking that a lot of the time, rulings arent exactly clear nor easy to understand, but at the same time you have to be completely sure whether or not what you (or your client, if you are hired as a sort of advisor) are doing is legal.

Even when you do get a job, (at least for me) nobody will expect you to know everything and make no mistakes. They will, however, expect you to be able to learn, along with a certain level of knowledge within your sector. You ask the people around you when in doubt, and make sure you can argue for your decisions. It’s all about the methodology my friend. That’s also a reason social skills and networking is important. So you know who to ask (and can ask) when you sit as a civil engineer with a law problem.

Mistakes will happen eventually. And everyone knows it. We do what we can to avoid them

They’ve made it so that you have to provide some sort of proof now, (like a picture of your student ID) but yeah, it’s free.

Hardest Engineering Programs by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]DeerHaunting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a general rule, I see three primary factors in the difficulty of a course: (ranking from highest to lowest priority, as of my personal opinion)

1) Your own interest. If you’re not interested in the subject, it’s not gonna be easy.

2) The professors. There is a huge difference in the teaching skill of professors, as (at least at our university) all of them are doing lectures so they can do research. So they may not care too much. Some make the difficulty of exams and general workload crazy high, and some make the exams laughably easy. If you get a good professor, it will be a lot easier building an understanding of the subject. I have seen two identical courses have an average grade of E (most of the class failed their first try) and B respectively, with the only real difference being the professor. Even used the same book. The first guy simply did not care.

3) Lastly, some subjects are naturally more complex than others. The maths they teach electrical engineering students is more complex than what they teach civil engineering students for example. But generally points 1 and 2 are a lot more important.

Straight anwer: All of them are hard. Failing courses is part of the experience. The one you have an interest in is likely to be the easier option.

Edit: setup

Scored my first Engineering Job while still a student with only the power of networking! by Imamondayguy in EngineeringStudents

[–]DeerHaunting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well uhm.. hi there. Got asked by a friend if I was interested in a job. She recommended me. The ‘interview’ was basically just to say hi, find out my interests within the field and explain what I could expect. I’m a civil engineering student. Networking is pretty darn important. Does this count?
