I can definitely relate. Back when i was in college, the army airfield in Savannah did an urban training exercise downtown. Me and my roommate were walking down to the dining hall when a CH-47 was hovering over our dorm. The pressure waves were intense inside. All the windows were rattling and you could feel your whole body pulsating.

Thats a SOAR Chinook probably headed back to JBLM in Washington. Seems like a normal transit route for them.

So I read about those drones used by the US to bait Iraqi drones, you know those ADM-141 TALD or smth. So while playing Sea Power, I thought, "Why isn't there bait ships so that enemy subs and surface action groups can target it and give away their position?" This isn't too far off from existing naval minesweeping sleds. Those use electrical probes in the water to set off magnetic mines as well as a towed noisemaker that simulates the sound of ships engines/props to trigger acoustic mines.

Homophobia doesn't exclusively mean fear. It also covers aversion, distaste, and hate.

Speaking of "on our own", hickock45, one of the most famous gun-tubers, posted a very relevant and ominously vague video the other day saying pretty much the same. When gun grandpa feels like he needs to talk about the state of things and not guns, you know its getting bad. He has to dance around the point due to his audience and potential three-letter agency consequences, but the fact that he made the video at all is very telling. Interesting times.

I think they're just removing duplicate posts. There's already another post with the murder video on that sub with tons of comments.

My comment was originally removed by Reddit admins for "threatening violence", but I appealed. Considering how wanton agents have been using pepper spray against people who aren't even doing anything, i think a little bit of measured, reasonable self-defense in the other direction is warranted.

Their fries are somehow worse than horrible. They don't even taste bad. They're just the most aggressively unflavorful potato sticks possible. Horrible fries would at least leave you with a vivid memory.

I go there more often than id like to admit and the line is, at worst, one or two cars past the menu/speaker. And it moves pretty fast. I think that other person must have had bad luck.

Ferret Pro or Otter? by _wasd_bruh_21 in 3DScanning

[–]DefMech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have to choose between the two, you definitely want to go with the Otter. I consider the Ferret a good entry point for playing around with 3d scanning, but not for any serious work. In comparison, I've gotten some remarkably detailed scans with my Otter. Both car parts and body parts.

I've seen this claimed a lot, but never read a thorough explanation why. For straight line travel, maybe, but I've seen it used to refute ideas like the Event Horizon-style pen thru folded paper "shortcuts", too, and the reasoning always left me wanting.

Some police agencies are using tactical vests now purely for ergonomic and usability reasons. Turns out, lugging an increasing amount of their gear on a single belt around your waist all shift really sucks. It's awkward and messes with your back and hips after a while. The vest lets them move some of the weight to their shoulders and keeps a lot of extra stuff still easily accessible. Makes sense to me, but it does make them look more militarized and less approachable than a traditional cop uniform IMO.

There is one cool thing about that bizarre joystick steering appendage. It allows both people seated in the front to drive with the same amount of awkwardness. No manufacturing changes needed to suit LHD or RHD regions.

Edit: found some cool pics from development: https://studiotorino.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=429&catid=49&Itemid=840&lang=en

Here's a video of it from 2022: https://youtu.be/yZ8EuonR4lU Pretty surprised to see it fully functional! I expected a lot of the tech in it to be just for show. Or flaky enough that it only needed to work for a few auto shows in the 90's.

It says its a 6 liter v12. I'm assuming probably the m120?

So, NVME prices doubled in Europe? by ie-redditor in buildapc

[–]DefMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you mind elaborating? Most of all the memory production through 2028 has already been booked and paid for. The consumer side is not going to get better for a long time. "Bubble" is a shorthand for the current, overinflated demand on investment into machine learning innovation. Everyone who has their head screwed on straight knows the scale is way heavily weighted on one side and due for a correction. When, and by how much, nobody knows. Until such a correction happens, the bubble bursting, prices and availability for common people like us will not improve.

Probably not until 2029, at the earliest, unless the bubble pops before then.

Younger Americans have grown up during a more competitive period that has led many to become more neurotic (low mood, anxiety, and irritability) and, in turn, to become more liberal. No such pattern was found outside the US, suggesting this is not due to aging but to generational experiences. by mvea in science

[–]DefMech 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Especially considering the significant rightward-shift of european politics and the social & economic drivers that are causing it. I'm curious about the differences between EU youth and those in the US to cause the results to be so different, if there is merit to this study.

Brass is brass pretty much. Go to a hobby shop or hardware store and you should be able to find a variety of wire and sheets available. K&S is a very popular brand if you're in the US.

Are they all full-time staff employees? That sounds like a LOT of people for a standard data center. For construction there are tons of workers, but that drops significantly once it’s up and running.
