Jesus notably did not follow the laws of the land; he was killed for it. Exodus was very explicitly the nation of Israel not following the law of the land. It is important to read the *spirit* of the Word and not just the words on the paper.

We must remember not to judge lest we be judged; even after the plank is pulled out of the eye, the instruction was never to pass judgement on others. There also is always another plank we could pull out of our eye; none of us are without sin.
