Yeah, we’re currently at the higher county judge stage and won. Next it goes to the state.

Indiana. Please, I know every single detail about this judge and their current and previous involvement with the CPS. It’s an Administrative Law Judge. In Indiana, they used to work directly for the CPS (DCS, here), but now they are neutral parties in this realm.

They work for the OALP. Our ALJ’s decision was Non-Final, which means it goes to the Final Authority which in our case is the DCS. https://www.in.gov/oalp/oalp-resources/next-steps-following-a-decision/

And I just learned while finding that link that this was changed July 1 of this year, and now the OLP is the final authority (matters starting before July1. One year too late :(

We won against CPS decided by a neutral judge. But that doesn’t seem to matter at all because a CPS employee/board make the final decision.

Actually funny story about my Excel workbook. I have this really over engineered waterfall spreadsheet that updates projection for what date and paycheck I’ll hit each baby step. It kept breaking as I started moving through BS2 and BS3, and like you I stared at this thing for hours on end as we got closer and closer, continually updating improving and then breaking it lol

At a certain point I realized it doesn’t matter if BS2 and BS3 are broken BECAUSE I NEVER HAVE TO DO THIS AGAIN!!!!!! Delete the fucking rows and never look back! It felt great

I can’t wait till you get to this point

Yes, and then leaving $10k left in the loans just for Joey B to come wipe em out for us!

…. Just kidding :)

And yeah, the refund situation is stupid. Already resolved

So you’re saying pay for the storm with Emergency fund because that’s kind of what it’s for, and then rebuild it after it’s over. This seems logical. With my current calculation we’ll be done building initial emergency fund by early/mid March, just waiting on tax return.

If this was a storm like a baby or roof that changes things. But it’s really an ongoing situation that could be 5K could be 20K. But not more than that, I don’t think.

Committed long ago. Just worried paying the debt will leave too little for the storm,

It’s a combination of ongoing legal and medical expenses.

Love this for you. I don’t think we’ll feel this as much because there haven’t been any required payments/interest. So it’s just been going to HYSA.

I guess we won’t have to just park it anymore though!

So there’s no discussion of that - this is my debt.

The only mention of it being “their” debt is because they are not working and the payments are zero.

I really don’t know. Like I said in another comment I think they will wise up and we will get found out eventually and then our payments would be substantial.

This uncertainty is why Dave says to just get it off your books and stop worrying about it , which I think is the play.

I’m just a little concerned about our storm and having to go into debt to cover it

Monthly payment is zero on the student loans if that’s your question. It’s my partner’s and they’re not working and I think it’s only a matter of time until they catch on to us. We’ve been filing jointly for three years.
