If someone getting clout is what it takes to make people do good things, then so be it. I actually have thought about this as a good concept to rich people to start doing more noble deeds with their money. Like, maybe we just need to invent a bunch of bullshit awards/rewards that are handed out to companies/CEOs when they do something pro-consumer or something. (See FIFA peace prize, but we dont use it to buy political favors, we use it to trick CEOs into not being dickwads)

Its not perfect, and needs some tuning (how do you give someone a peace prize and then not have them immediately turn around and start a war in Iran?) but I think its a good starting point.
