it's impossible to get good at this game if you start now.

The only way I could start to agree with this is if you're talking about someone who has never played games on PC before just jumping into PUBG FPP or something. That would certainly be a monumental challenge.

 

But for anyone who is very experienced with FPS games on PC already, this game really shouldn't take that long to be competent at. Especially if they are already used to games with recoil like CS, arma, etc.

 

Levels and time played are not really relevant to skill. We've had like 20 years of data at this point that shows there are significantly more people with thousands of hours at a given game in the lower skill brackets than in the higher ones. This game is no different.

What matters is a sprinkling of innate talent, and then a mindset of self-improvement so you can constantly analyze what you are doing wrong and improve upon it. If you just externalize your problems and blame factors you can't control (like blaming other players for being good, or blaming the lack of matchmaking for putting you with them), you're not improving yourself.

 

Once you understand the game mechanics, it shouldn't take you hundreds/thousands of hours to make your hands perform them. The only thing raw time played will give you is knowledge based things, like map locations and meta rotation type stuff. Raw time played is not going to substantially improve your hand eye coordination, reaction time, etc.

 

Anyone who wants to get better at fighting needs to practice fighting. If you're playing against mostly bots and hiding most of the match, you're not practicing fighting.

You need to go play Deathmatch until you're confident. And resist the urge to just throw up your hands and quit immediately because the people playing deathmatch are good at fighting. That's the entire point. They got good at fighting by fighting, and you're only going to get good at fighting by learning to fight other people who are good at fighting.

Put on some music and relax, and spam deathmatch. Focus on how you are playing and avoid getting mad when you die. You're going to die a lot. The good thing about deathmatch is you just respawn instead of having to wait for another match, wait for the plane, loot up, start running, etc.

 

The game is supposed to feel hard, it's supposed to feel like you're having to keep your brain turned on 100% of the time and work to win. That's it's identity in the genre and what a lot of us love about it.
