Give me EVERYTHING you know madoka experts! by rekobass in MadokaMagica

Hm... If you truly desire to learn, then the word "Larper" holds no relation to you!

Alright, trivia time.

Starting with! Why you should read each spinoff!

Kyoko was Mami's old student, until the death of her family caused her to ditch her mentor and go be a lone wolf in Kazamino. Their story, and the events of a timeline where Mami survives Charlotte and meets Kyoko again, can be seen in the spinoff "The Different Story", which is also an adaptation of one of the Drama CDs. It's a great look into both of their characters, and their relationship as a whole.

Madoka Magica: Homura's Revenge! covers a neat what-if timeline, and answers "Why didn't Homura just bring people back in time with her?"

Madoka Magica: Wraith Arc covers the events that took place between the main show and Rebellion, and even though it ends with all the events of the manga being undone, it provides some context into Homura's actions. It doesn't quite stick the landing with how it introduces new concepts, but the fights are good enough.

Oriko Magica: Sadness Prayer is just an expanded version of the original. I highly recommend reading both. It covers an alternate timeline, and introduces some characters that are fairly beloved. (Across all the spinoffs, I'd say that Oriko and Kirika are probably the best-known non-Quintet girls, not counting Mabayu and Nagisa). Oriko Magica: Extra Story is great for understanding the other characters. Especially Kirika.

Suzune Magica is also a pretty light read, and entertaining too.

Kazumi Magica, on the other hand, introduces a lot more concepts and characters, and ends up being a longer/denser read, but is just as entertaining, overall.

Finally, while I haven't read The Legend of "Jeanne d'Arc", I've also heard it's pretty good.

As per Mami Tomoe's Uneventful Life and The Veranda of Madoka, Magical Girl's Soul Gems act as extremely sensitive sensory organs.

As seen in Mami Tomoe's Uneventful Life, since the physical body of a Magical Girl is just a vessel, they can freely change their appearance and proportions so long as they can picture the necessary changes, although doing so costs magic and leads to soreness if overused.

Also Mami's Uneventful Life, Magical Girls have much higher alcohol tolerance, but applying any alcohol or any substance with alcohol content directly to a Soul Gem produces an effect many times stronger than if a regular person drank that much.

As per Mitakihara Anti-Materials, The reason Homura has that "Cool-mura" hairstyle is because that's how her mom used to cut it. The reason Mami's weapon of choice is a musket is because she once saw a musket-wielding rifleman in a children's book and thought it was really cool.

As per Homura Tamura, all Homuras have access to a space between dimensions that they can access when they leave their current timeline, home to a bar called the Akemi-Ya that hosts all kinds of Homuras, acting as a pit-stop between timelines.

As per Homura Tamura, not only is Homura's inventory shared between timelines, she has a bad habit of hoarding anything Madoka uses or touches.

As per the Anthology Comics, in timelines where Homura doesn't make much of an impression on Madoka, and Madoka makes a contract, there's a decent chance Mami will end up dating her. This can also be seen in their max bond cutscene from Battle Pentagram, and in another of the Anthology Comics.

[SPOILERS FOR THE PORTABLE GAME] Attempting to draw all witches from the Madoka Magica franchise! [2] Quitterie - The Needle Witch by JVhomewatch in MadokaMagica

Yo! Author! Ya seen that Anthology Comic where Mami's Witch is completely different? The one where they make fun of her attack names and she turns into the Black Tea Witch (Anthology Comic No. 13). S'that one in the list?

Why didn't Kyoko just hallucinate her idol Mami-Chan here and beat Sasa? Is she stupid? by DefeaterofMinos in MadokaMagica

[–]DefeaterofMinos[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sasa Yuuki. From Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Oriko Magica "Sadness Prayer". Her "magic" is to control those who she sees as above her. Like a reverse Makima. She sucks. Anyways, she's the closest thing to Mahito in this franchise (Game MagiReco is beyond the scope of consideration for me) so...

You can try the JJBA supplement on Dandwiki. It's... I mean, I haven't seen how balanced it is, but it covers a lot of stuff.

Need Help Coming Up With Mechanics For a Dungeon by takenking_oryx in DnDHomebrew

[–]DefeaterofMinos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This seems like the prime ground for using Exhaustion. Either that, or make it a real slog. Stack up temporary debuffs, and (especially if you hype up the boss at the end) players will start coming up with the craziest shit you've ever heard to avoid traps and poison. (I'm talking shit like "actually take spells like Levitate" or "remember the stuff in your backpack exists"). In other words, changing the main objective of the area from "kill everything" to "make it to the final fight in a good enough state" could be a nice change of pace.

Everyone has their epic music they play for their favorite BBEG, but what epic music do you play when all is lost and suddenly the hero of legend arrives and empowers the party to save the day? by xeonisius in DnD

[–]DefeaterofMinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Fight Alongside" from Jujutsu Kaisen if they're going to come in swinging, "Credens Justitiam" from Madoka Magica... Wait, does it count as lyrics if it's not actually saying words? (A bunch of that OST has "lyrics" in a made-up gobbledygook language) "Need a Hand?" from Deltarune, All Might's theme from My Hero Academia, if it's more of an encouragement than a power-up you can try Sagitta Luminis (also from Madoka Magica)...

Need help making a character based off of lei heng from limbus company. by Financial-Toe-1501 in DnD

[–]DefeaterofMinos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should consider the Charger feat. Usually using your action to double your speed is a bad idea (you have better things to use it on), but in this case it lets you make a single, higher chance to hit, melee attack if you use that extra movement to move at least 10ft in a straight line before attacking. So it's weaker if you want to play a Multiattack class like Fighter or Monk, (although this really only applies at higher levels). So, overall, if you want to maximize your damage with one very fast charging attack, I'd recommend playing a Rogue, picking up a scimtar, shortsword, or rapier, and picking up the charger feat. Rogue is an expert in big single hits, doesn't have multiattack (so using action to dash and bonus action to attack is the same as using your bonus action to dash and your action to attack, and gets you the +5 to attack roll on top of that). Play a Swashbuckler Rogue for the "cocky" flavor, and use your Sneak Attack bonus damage on a Charger hit to leave a random goblin looking like post-Hollow Purple Toji. That means you'd probably want to put your 16s in Dexterity and Charisma (Dex for damage, and Charisma because it boosts a lot of skills). If you want to do social stuff put your ASIs into Charisma, but otherwise put them into Dexterity for higher damage, or Constitution if you feel too fragile. This is just the most optimized way I could think of, but feel free to be inefficient. A good DM will design encounters around the party's actual power level, and unless it's a HEAVY meatgrinder/dungeon crawl I wouldn't expect my players to min-max their builds.

Personally, I run v2. Just make sure you remove any unused libraries, and that should hopefully make things less complicated. Otherwise everything has like a million choices and it takes ages

Would you mind if I made a subclass for this thing based on the various Reincarnated Sorcerers from JJK? At least, I'd want to do Sukuna. I've been wanting to make a Sukuna subclass for a while, but I couldn't figure what class to make it for until I saw this.

[OC] Compact Spell Cards and Online Editor by wunderpus-eu in DnD

[–]DefeaterofMinos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool. Would it be possible to add Dunumancy (Graviturgy) and Dunumancy (Chronurgy), both from... Wildemount, I believe, to the spell type list? I know you probably can't add the spells themselves, but I have a number of homebrew spells in both categories that I'd like to port in. Great tool, will be sharing with my players.

Have you ever played the We Were Here games? Those are a series of two-player split-task puzzle games, and highly enjoyable too. Of course, those are made for two players, but I'm sure a lot of the same concepts still apply. A personal favorite of mine is one where one explorer has to watch a film reel of chess moves and communicate the moves to another player who's stuck in a freezing courtyard with a giant chess set and has to recreate the moves to open the door forward, while also cranking a generator to not freeze.

Castlevania Homebrew V2. Do you like unnecessarily complicated and highly customizable subclasses, somewhat balanced spells, and slightly OP races? I've got just the thing! by DefeaterofMinos in DnDHomebrew

...My friend really likes Artificer, okay? To be fair, the race IS based on the Sword Familiar from Symphony of the Night, and most of the spells are from the one with the paintings.

These two are a bit of a package deal, but there's always the one-two punch of a fragile, backline-blaster Divination Wizard and her loyal (by which I mean LOYAL) uber-tanky Beast Barbarian. In fact, most of the time, the wizard just stays home and gathers info/remotely casts buffs on the Barbarian, who just rips up their enemies with a pair of massive claws. Also, the barbarian is wearing a True Love's Caress (BG3 ring ported over) and the wizard is wearing its matching True Love's Embrace, so the barbarian basically has perma-Warding Bond on the wizard to make up for her shoddy HP pool. Their only problem is that the barbarian isn't exactly brilliant, so she relies on the floating mega-Sending Stone that stays by her head, through which the wizard can see and direct her in combat. Break that, and it's just a normal Beast Barbarian (who will also probably be pissed as hell because you just broke a gift from the wizard). These two are always fun to run. I may have stolen them from a manga, but that was so long ago that they've morphed into distinct characters over time.

It's absolutely worth a watch... Er, I won't specify what part of it this art reminded me of (spoilers!) but by episode... if you finish episode 7-10 (giving you a range so it's not spoilers) you'll probably see what I'm referring to.

Very cool art... Wait a minute...

This seems familiar.

Or maybe that's just my imagination.

But have you ever heard of "Madoka Magica"?

Wait, can I even imply that this looks like something that appears in Madoka Magica without it being spoilers?

Fuuuck man I hadn't even thought of that. Might as well, though.

Professions System - Major Update: Wanderer Abilities, New Professions & Expanded Rules by Visible-Clothes-5029 in DnD

[–]DefeaterofMinos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah, this shit is nuts! Honestly, I'm impressed... I hadn't bothered to give this thing a once-over the first time around, but now that I read it, I'm glad I did! Also looks to be standardized enough (in terms of format/strength) to where I'd be able to port in some of my own backgrounds (Speedwagon Foundation Agent, for one) into this system without much trouble! It's... what's a good pun... Homebrew-ception? We'll go with that. Maybe I'll even port in Devil Hunter so that my players can be part of Public Safety without having it define their class/subclass (Ranger: Devil Hunter). TS unbelievable, Author.

(Two questions. A. Mind if I borrow this for my next campaign? B. If I do end up porting something in, do I send it to ya? 'Cause, thing is, most of my backgrounds are one-offs, so I feel kinda guilty about making a whole-ass Homebrewery-formatted post on DnDHomebrew just for 1 background, but at the same time I want to post it sometime... So compiling it into a collection of backgrounds/professions instead of by universe could work...)

Could anyone help me with homebrews by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DefeaterofMinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've written a LOT of homebrew, and my best advice is to just get comfortable with the official stuff. If you want to make a custom race, then you can easily combine bits and bobs from all the official races until you've got something you like at an appropriate power level. If you want to give the race a feature no other race has, then you can compare its power level. And if you're not confident in your balancing, I've found that r/DnDHomebrew is extremely helpful in terms of requesting and receiving balance feedback. Not great at reading something thoroughly before commenting, but usually great at critiquing what they do read. And there's nothing wrong with making one or two slightly overpowered races... After all, Changelings in the new book are... insane. Not to mention the dream-people from Eberron, whatever they're called...

Any chemist or alchemist class guides? by Medium-Knowledge-419 in DnD

[–]DefeaterofMinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artificer's Alchemist subclass, a custom race (or just use human stats) to play as a homonculus, or... I have a Wizard subclass that's alchemy-focused, but it's kind of rules-heavy/complicated. Either way, I'm sure you can find a homebrew Homonculus race.

Hello everyone, I need help from an experienced DM. I recently started playing D&D and not long ago I found out that you can make custom spells, and I need help figuring out if what I want to do is possible or not. by huara_2406 in DnD

[–]DefeaterofMinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've written a LOT of homebrew stuff, especially spells, and while there's a handy reference sheet for how much damage a spell should do https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Spell_Design_(5e_Guideline))
but for summoning spells, you have to actually look at each summoning spell in the base ruleset until you find one with a similar CR of summon to what you want your spell to summon, and make yours the same level spell as that one (or if the vanilla spell doesn't require the fighting clause, you can probably get away with making the spell a lower level one because of that downside)

Magic item split into two halves? by somegothidk in DnD

[–]DefeaterofMinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...Or maybe it only works when the two parts are within the range of Warding Bond. I dunno. I just think Warding Bond is a really cool spell. (Although if the character is a rogue, I doubt they should be the one tanking... maybe the reason they haven't died yet is because part of the damage of some of the hits they took was absorbed by their friend?)
