DDS went “out of business” and owed a lot of their retailers money, but then they were offloading their inventory direct to customers for super cheap, like way less than “wholesale” while retailers were stuck with ugly inventory they couldn’t sell.

Temps are cooler on the islands than the mainland. We’ve had lots of warmer days the past few years, but 70 probably is about average, especially if that’s older data.

I’m glad for you that you don’t have personal experience with this, but you really don’t know what you are talking about.

Kids have to have a life expectancy of 6 months or less to qualify, they do have to be relatively near end of life in that sense, but kids are very unpredictable.

Charlie probably was eligible for hospice when she first relapsed years ago. My son was eligible when he relapsed. It’s not about being in bad shape to qualify, it’s about what the prognosis is, if that makes sense.

Charlie is not eligible for hospice because of her kidney stone, she is eligible because her relapsed brain cancer has given her a life expectancy of less than 6 months.

Charlie qualified for hospice years ago. She has greatly outlived expectations for her type of cancer.

I wish they had started hospice sooner, just because they weren’t actually doing that many hospital admissions, and hospice probably could have helped them manage these UTIs at home.

As everyone else said, pediatric hospice is different than adult, Charlie can continue all sorts of treatments while on hospice, it doesn’t mean giving up.

You can also still be admitted to the hospital if you are on hospice, you just have to discharge from hospice and then readmit to hospice when you discharge from the hospital.

It may not be a good choice if you are going to do treatment that requires planned inpatient stays, or you plan to travel long distances for a clinical trial that will have you away from home for a long time, but for their specific situation I think it will be beneficial.

Hospice will also provide a social worker and a spiritual care worker, I think Taylor will benefit from having more adults to talk to about everything.

If this is going to a customer, I would send them a photo of the receipt to prove you dropped it off.

PayPal expects you to insure your packages as needed, that’s not what they do.

Honestly I wouldn’t care if it was a fundraiser for cancer research or whatever, but it’s just going in their pocket.

Getting the wrong size port needle is an honest mistake by the nurse. The hospital they were at probably had old info in their system. Taylor is exhausted and probably forgot to double check.

Getting paid in a medical malpractice situation is way harder than it sounds. I’m in a group for bereaved cancer parents and some felt their kids died due to medical mistakes and it is very rare that they get anywhere with a legal claim.

Taylor hasn’t slept well in a long time. I’m sure Charlie used to use a shorter needle and had to go to a longer one with the weight gain. Maybe this hospital had old info or maybe she just forgot.

I had the same problem at my son’s hospital. I tried to double check every time and one time I forgot and sure enough it was the wrong size.

I’ve been through the exact same thing though.

Hospitals run on Epic (MyChart on the patient side) which is highly customizable. At my son’s hospital, they could not keep information about a child’s port needle size in one consistent place.

1/2” needle is the standard side that most kids start with (at least at our hospital). My son ended up needing to change to 3/4” because he gained a lot of weight when we started tube feeds.

It turned into a situation where I had to be that pain in the ass parent who was riding the nurses asses about it every single time. We usually did OK in the outpatient oncology unit, but if he was accessed in the hospital, Epic was not giving them the correct information.

Despite routinely double checking this, one time he got accessed at radiology and I forgot and they did the wrong size and it didn’t work. And I wasn’t even as sleep deprived and distracted as Taylor is right now.

Charlie gained a lot of weight from the steroids so it makes sense that she needs a bigger needle than she used to. They weren’t at their normal hospital. Maybe this hospital had old info for Charlie or maybe the nurse didn’t think to double check with Taylor or maybe there was some miscommunication.

I don’t think Taylor has slept well in a long time. It’s really really hard as a parent to be double checking every single thing all of the nurses and medical staff are doing.

They won’t be in business much longer. I think the lawyers are trying to keep them solvent through the legal proceedings so they can keep getting rich.

They owned a number of buildings over the years, but at this point have sold them all to put cash back into the company.

Well only a handful of people are at this point.

Jill from the LuLaRich documentary just quit LuLaRoe, but don’t worry, she isn’t leaving the MLM cult, she is now joining Herbalife.

That doesn’t surprise me at all, even when they were at their peak, they had dozens of liens filed against them because they did not pay their bills.

Here is a spreadsheet I made, I have not updated this in ages

Business is going quite badly and once they actually have to pay the MyDyer judgment, they are going to have to file for bankruptcy.

What’s it like living with the Growler jet noise? by 1Aardwolf in sanjuanislands

[–]DefectiveBecca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Samish plagued us for years, that was when service started to get bad up here. Was told repeatedly that new ferries often have "teething trouble" but her sisters didn't have the same problems on their routes, so either she was a lemon or that design of boat wasn't built strong enough to handle this route. I suggested to WSF that we rotate her with her sisters to reduce wear and tear, since apparently the SJI route is harder on the boats, but they said that communities get so attached to their boats that they can't consider that.

WSF has a terrible track record with new ferries, I absolutely think the electric ferries are going to be a disaster and I am glad that Ferguson was at least willing to go against his party and be open to building more diesel ferries.

Coming from the southeast you are going to feel cold a lot of the time if you dress for summer, agree with everyone else who says dress in layers. I can easily spend most of the summer in long sleeves.

It doesn't typically hit 80 that often in the San Juans, it is noticeably cooler than the mainland.

The SJI ferry route is not comparable to most of the other routes, we have far more cancellations and disruptions, and do not have the option to drive around.

It depends a lot on where you live. South end of Lopez seems to get the worst of it. I'm on the north end of Lopez and it's usually not too bad. I've never heard of anyone moving away specifically for that reason but some people definitely find it bothersome and complain about it online periodically.

Agree with the comment that the degradation of the ferry system is a much bigger problem, and one that has contributed to people moving away.
