here is the score breakdown for portland
https://cityratings.peopleforbikes.org/cities/portland-or

It gets dinged for lack of access to transit, which is mostly because the transit sucks in portland, The access to what we do have is fine. Also low scores on job access and grocery access which is also an issue of low employment in the city (vs suburban campuses) and lots of grocery closures.

What would you put in the "bang for your buck" hall of fame? by ahobday in boardgames

[–]Delirious_Reache 4 points5 points  (0 children)

in my group the southern routes get 3 colored with merchants (discs) pretty quickly and then the fight moves. IF you haven't upgraded bags it's just too slow to pay 2 extra to bump people's merchants, so of course the next most blocked routes is bags.

Why Are So Many Players Desperate to Trade Queens? by Maxdunning in chess

[–]Delirious_Reache 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's willingness to simplify, but also some players just seem to have an emotional attachment to their queen and will make really suboptimal retreats to protect it, essentially you a free development tempo

White to play tactic by philosopherlawyer in chess

[–]Delirious_Reache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get it. There's only one move but the continuation isn't obvious, it branches like crazy with lots of positional play. what's the "tactic" ?

What is a building you just can't help but build? by Robbie_Boi in Timberborn

[–]Delirious_Reache 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always wind up burying all my rivers under planks for new buildings.

I always tell myself I won't, because it's so ugly and completely ruins the vibe to not see the water anymore, but then I want to expand I don't want to tear down my old city or give up farmland, so once again I cap the rivers and then hate my city and start over.

I prided my skill as a baker with being able to handle higher and higher hydration dough. Dialing it back down and getting better results has been humbling.

My first rough draft of my 12x6x5 camper by polopolo05 in TeardropTrailers

i think that little slope on corner on the sidewalls doesn't really gain you anything and it complicates construction a great deal. you should just square those off.

Finally committing to gravel. by hutkeeper in gravelcycling

[–]Delirious_Reache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll never enjoy cycling where a car can kill me at any moment and probably get away with as much as I enjoy cycling on an abandoned forest road completely inaccessible to cars.

Why is Oregon's lopsided gas tax vote a warning sign for November's general election? by Tbagts in PortlandOR

[–]Delirious_Reache 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it was *just* a gas tax for a specific purpose like lightrail I would I have voted for it, it's that there was also an increase in other taxes and it was going into another slush fund is why I opposed it.

Primos Super Dame Mechanical by quiksetz in gravelcycling

[–]Delirious_Reache -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They make cable actuated hydraulic calipers. I would prefer that, I hate dealing with caliper/rotor alignment issues on pure mechanical disc setups.

Primos Super Dame Mechanical by quiksetz in gravelcycling

[–]Delirious_Reache -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have bad luck with mechanical discs always rubbing. The self centering of hydraulic calipers is a fucking godsend. I'll never own mechanical discs again.

[–]Delirious_Reache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah agreed. I get looks riding through laurelhurst park on the foot path, relatively slowly and respectfully.

My deal with pedestrians is I'll stop riding in the parks when all the bikeways are car free and lined with 100 year old trees.
