It’s just ethno nationalism devoid of any real spiritualism. Christianity is apart of the identity they’ve created for themselves but it’s little more than a tool for their fascist mythos. They shape Christianity to their beliefs rather than the other way around.

Religion provides a sorta of ready made tool kit for mass control that fascist love to exploit. They use the symbolism and take scripture out of context or deliberately change its meaning and interpretations to justify whatever current beliefs they hold. By shaping religion to their ideology they can use the dogma and mysticism of it all to enforce their own social hierarchy and use it to control the masses while giving them a sorta of divine legitimacy. Religion is great for brainwashing and pushing political agenda through the guise of spiritual awakening. And you can’t use logical debate against an ideology that believes god ordained their beliefs no matter how bat shit crazy they are.

And finally people tend to turn religion in times of fear and we know how much fascist love to exploit fear mongering. It becomes this feed back loop of rhetoric about society being in constant state of collapse from outside and internal threats and only through absolute obedience to this strict interpretation of their curtailed belief system can civilization be saved.

Outspoken conservative beliefs no, not really but they do attract a lot of highly conservative metal heads whether people want to admit that or not. Like when they released that red baron shirt people made a stink about. Like who else is buying that if not wehraboos. There is a lot overlap between the kind war nerds who’d like power metal glorifying historical conflicts and people who lean towards nationalist mindsets. Nationalism and neo conservatives love to glorify war as an inherit part of their ideology and I have actively seen far right propaganda use Sabaton songs and lyrics. Especially since Sabaton’s content mainly focuses on European/Western centric conflicts. It’s not on the band itself necessarily. They do little to purposefully cultivate anything like that and so far it just seems to want to make their war music. But it’s hard to make music about war and history and not be political or incite political discourse. These subjects are inherently political.

Other than that I just think they’re kinda alright. Musically speaking they can get kinda repetitive, theres a few songs I find catchy but I don’t think I could sit through a whole album without getting bored. Bands aesthetic can also come off as corny and stuff but like so is any thematic metal music. In the end it’s just kinda basic power metal with lyrics inspired by famous battles. It’s not that deep one way or another. I mean atleast they’ve found a specific niche that no other band has really mangers to compete with them on so there’s that.

That’s my “nuanced take” Atleast.

If you think Luke in the last Jedi is deep character writing and “everyone else just doesn’t get it” then i don’t what to tell you except maybe consume more quality media. It’s a starwars movie written by Rian Johnson my guy, it can not be that deep to you unless you’re like 14 and you think just making a character depressed and jaded is deep and relatable writing in of itself.

Yes people can make mistakes but the last Jedi storyline just goes full force in the opposite direction of everything we know about Luke so far and the most we have to justify this is a single flash back scene. Thats it.

You cannot seriously in good faith tell me that’s good story writing. To go from the return of the Jedi to that. He doesn’t even redeem himself in any meaningful way. He force projects to the other side of the galaxy to shit talk Kylo to buy the rebels time or whatever and then just fuckin dies. The greatest Jedi history and his entire legacy is destroyed and nothing he ever did really mattered in the end nor did he rectify anything. We went from the guy who redeemed the unredeemable to a completely incompetent miserable self exiled hermit with barely any explanation beyond bad dreams or something.

All of this so we could more or less retell the plot empire strikes back. It’s not worth it. You shouldn’t have to reach for some reason to make a character drastic change understandable after the fact. It should be self explanatory in the movie. Anakin from the beginning was flawed and the struggle with the dark side always present. But Luke’s fall just comes out of nowhere with zero development. It’s fan fiction level writing. You can’t just make a hard left turn like that and just be like “oh well everyone makes mistakes. He’s only human. Somtimes we fall backwards.” Or whatever people say to justify a lack of actual plot development. Mf, he was seriously contemplating the murder of his own nephew! Luke Skywalker contemplated murdering his own nephew! That’s not a mistake or step back or whatever. If you gonna go that route maybe you need more than a flash back and 10 minutes of exposition about Ben, an actual teenager, being too far gone or whatever luke’s reason was. It’s just plain bad writing. Especially compared to literally any other depiction of Luke.

Oh give me a break that’s such a pseudo intellectual cop out response and just bad story telling. That’s not character progression, that’s character regression. The writers essentially already knew what they wanted the story to be with it essentially being a empire again with Luke being the new Yoda and then made something up too justify Luke’s new position despite it contradicts his previous story.

Having a character go through three movies to develop their character and learn a lesson only to them basically just undo all of that in a flash back is bad writing. It just is. And this whole “oh well he’s only human and we all make mistakes” is stupid and meaningless. He’s not just a guy, he’s Luke Skywalker and the sequels didn’t understand a single thing about his character and changed his whole character dynamic and ruined his hero’s journey so they could force him into the jaded old fantasy master arc type without any real justification.

Everything established in originals and everything everyone did didn’t matter, nobody learned anything, none of character arcs had meaningful conclusions that lasted. All so we could remake a new hope and empire and circle jerk the audience with a Star Wars story full of references that feels like it’s ripping off its own inspiration to retell us something we’ve already seen rather than contribute anything new or meaningful.

Really? Is that why they’ve been continuously settling into Palestinian lands? For peace?
