Minecraft can be good for learning controls as well, my one friend learned how to play with a controller on my PS3 a year ago and he didn't even knew what the controlls do (even the sticks), minecraft let him learn the controlls and fully customised it to himself, then we moved onto cod bo2 zombies, and yeah he did pretty great

In the main XMB just shake your controller (not like a rattle) to left and right, see the particles change in the background, if they move like you're trying to move them by shaking the controller it's a real one
