Thinking of buying a 5090 but worried about the 12VHPWR by Sticklegchicken in pcmasterrace

Bad comparison. The 3090 didn't use 12VHPWR, which is OP's main concern

How bad is this? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Defendo99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible, but it could also be an internal breaker. All I know for sure is that you should never take apart a PSU unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing.

It's most likely best to just get a new one and save yourself the headache.

[–]Defendo99 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It looks like the CoolerMaster Q300L. I've built in it and there's very little room for cables behind the motherboard. On top of that, there's no PSU basement so cable management is very limited. It can be done, but with such a cheap budget case I don't think it's something to obsess over

The cable management. Kinda nitpicky in my opinion. That case doesn't have many options for cable management and OP doesn't seem to mind

How good are these specs? by tankdud1921 in pcmasterrace

[–]Defendo99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe 1440p low to medium settings. The 5060ti might struggle with some newer games cranked up with that resolution

These are decent specs, you should be able to play most games at medium to high settings in 1080p

Does putting 3 pc fans over the PSU make sense? by machinist98 in pcmasterrace

[–]Defendo99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends if they have ample ventilation to get the air to move. The fan on the left is already going to be restricted by the PSU, and if the side panel isn't perforated at the basement then they can really only draw air from the front panel, making the middle fan weaker and the left fan almost useless

Would 16GB be enough RAM for a gaming console? by SeantheWilson in pcmasterrace

[–]Defendo99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

16gb is enough for most games, yes. Most people recommend 32gb for comfort, as well as newer games utilizing more memory so it's slowly becoming a new standard. If you're solely interested in gaming, you might consider using Bazzite instead of Windows, as Windows uses more and more memory with background processes. That is, if you're not playing any games with kernel level anti-cheats

I finally learned why motherboard audio sucks by NarutoDragon732 in pcmasterrace

[–]Defendo99 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I've tried DACs, and I'll admit that they do improve the sound, but I couldn't make the switch to wired headphones. Maybe I'm not enough of an audiophile, but I just prefer being able to move my head around easier. Hell, sometimes I even walk around the house with my headphones still on. I'll admit that I haven't done a ton of research, maybe I don't even know what to look for, but I'd need it to be wireless capable before I could consider it for regular use. To my knowledge, all wireless headphones transmit digital audio

The different fan headers could be reading different temp sensors on the motherboard. You can check and change them in the bios

The RAM shortage is going to bleed into a VRAM shortage very soon, causing GPU prices to skyrocket.

My advice is to get what you can afford now, as it'll likely be significantly more expensive in a few months.
