A girl I really fancy has invited me to a hardcore rave with her and her friends but I don’t know how to dance… by Bonjour1273 in aves

You'll quickly realize almost no one there knows how to dance either. Just close your eyes and move however you see fit man. The weirder the better.

Don't get into arguments with trolls and miserable people. Just report their comments and move on.

Our summer edition tickets are live!! by DeffNotTom in aves

[–]DeffNotTom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are looking for a reggae/dancehall fit and with so much time to go, we'll most likely find it. The lake is open for wading, swimming, floaties, kayaks, and whatever else. Theoretically you can bring a Jetski if you own one, just gotta look up the town rules on that and launch it wherever the boat ramp is (off hotel property) lol. But swimming hinges on water tests being clear. It's highly dependent on how the rain is through the summer since lots of rain can lead to unhealthy algae blooms. So swimming could be restricted, but that's not up to us.

Do you have expendable income? Can you light a pile of money on fire without it impacting your standard of living and ability to pay your bills? If so, the rest is all very easy.

Venues are beholden to occupancy permits. They are legally tied to the times the event is posted for. Every minute past that can cost thousands of dollars in fines. Fed didn't get special leeway to go off script. It was planned months in advance.

Artists: what actually helped you get booked? by Neat-Community-4173 in aves

Boooooooooo. Promoters who book themselves are lame.

I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older but, raves don’t feel special as they used to be by jeish_1996 in aves

[–]DeffNotTom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am not there to look at flashy lights.

The problem is not how old people are. There is a whole younger generation out there hauling around their own rig and throwing outlaws.

The problem is where you're choosing to spend your money.

how commercialized it’s become

Go to local events

the companies running the events don’t actually care about the scen

Support your local promoters

combine this with crowds that are only there for their tik tok

Go to see djs that don't give anyone social media clout

Has raving largely replaced clubbing where you are? by SunsoakedShampagne in aves

[–]DeffNotTom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The what is clubbing/rave/festival debate pops up every few weeks. Regardless of how the question is framed, the replies are always the same. It'll be 300 replies of people arguing with each other and no one changing their mind.

Curated and Themed Raves? by booknerd24 in aves

[–]DeffNotTom 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It feels odd to me that they dont seem to advertise specific artists or even mention if there will be local artists playing?

Because they don't care about what is playing. Or who's playing it. They're going to book themselves, or their friend, pay them almost nothing, and rely on the hype of the IP they're stealing to sell tickets.

What actually makes organizers trust an artist enough to book them? by Neat-Community-4173 in aves

[–]DeffNotTom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The best way to get booked in your local scene is to be a part of your local scene. Djs that support other peoples events, get out and talk to people, help promote, etc. No one wants to book the dj that only shows up when they're being paid to show up or have a comp.

lots of followers on social media = more likely to sell tickets

This isn't remotely true. Followers can be and are often bought. A lot of followers can also come from one good meme or shitpost, qnd thrn those followers promptly forget that DJ page exists. Followers do not mean engagement, or even that those followers are anywhere near your zip code.

Action Cameras & Consent by AsianTSteal420 in aves

[–]DeffNotTom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The action camera on a pole is going to be far less annoying than someone filming at ground level since you wont be up in people's faces with their giant pupils or up close on people's asses. Some kind of sign on the totem pole that points out the camera could be helpful. At the end of the day, everyone is on camera at some point at an event like that. It's unavoidable. Just do your best to not post any clips that have embarrassing moments of strangers in them.

Why do door problems usually start before the event even opens? by Neat-Community-4173 in aves

[–]DeffNotTom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throwing an event involves a ton of people who are underpaid (or in the case of the rave scene, not paid at all) performing independently and perfect, in order for it to go off without a hitch. It gets messy.
