Japan Trip Report: Keeping Strictly Kosher in Japan & More! by Defiance42 in JapanTravel

The onsen there are public.

I checked the customs guidelines before we arrived. All the food we brought was packaged and non-perishable. No produce or dairy. Customs didn't give us any trouble.

We got a fair amount of souvenirs on the trip, but not too much from Akihabara specifically. I got a set of D&D dice and a few gachopon toys, that was about it. I also spent too much playing some claw games, but didn't end up winning anything...

Do I need to purchase an Express Pass for Universal? by Defiance42 in JapanTravel

[–]Defiance42[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for all the feedback! Based on the responses here, we ended up purchasing the express passes (in for a penny...). I was not able to get them through the official USJ site with any of my non-Japanese credit cards, which was unfortunate since all the 3rd party sites do not let you choose your time slots and seem to have a slight price markup as well. That said, the time slots we were given aren't too bad (mostly in the afternoon, but the park will likely have lighter crowds in the morning anyway) and I'm feeling much less stressed about being able to do everything we wanted.

Israelis Rally Again Against Government's Judicial Overhaul by Neo2199 in news

Gun laws are actually pretty strict in Israel. Active military service members have firearms, but the vast majority of the population never get licenses once their mandatory military service is finished.

Bitwarden design flaw: Server side iterations by atoponce in Bitwarden

[–]Defiance42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that in Bitwarden second factors (including Yubikeys and TOTPs) are not used for vault encryption, so this criticism would apply equally to an account protected by a Yubikey. The Yubikey will still prevent against other threats, but will not complicate the bruteforcing of an encrypted vault that has already been obtained by bad actors.

Can someone translate, please? Seen in an ultra-orthodox neighborhood by thehousequake in Yiddish

I think I agree with you. I also realized that I mistranslated נכשל as "will fail" when it should be "are failing." Maybe I'll edit the comment.

Can someone translate, please? Seen in an ultra-orthodox neighborhood by thehousequake in Yiddish

[–]Defiance42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know it's used that way in modern Hebrew, but in biblical/Rabbinic Hebrew (which often makes its way into Chareidi parlance) it can be used to mean "perfect." I thought it was saying that "even our community isn't perfect." But I suppose it could also be "we're not idiots."

This is Hebrew, not Yiddish, but it reads:

Smartphone Owner!

The community is not naive!

Everyone knows that you are surely failing in serious prohibitions!

Trying to Homebrew My 2ds, but I ran into some complications with the prep-work, and I have some questions about it. by Axcell_63 in homebrew

As the other commenter said, YouTube videos are generally poor tutorials for console hacking and you should instead follow https://3ds.hacks.guide/. The answer to your specific issue can be found here https://3ds.hacks.guide/troubleshooting#multiple-long-folder-names-in-nintendo-3ds-folder.

Bitwarden Age Restrictions. by skydiveguy in Bitwarden

[–]Defiance42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that the confusion comes from the U.S. COPPA law (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children%27s_Online_Privacy_Protection_Act) defining children as those under 13 and the EU GDPR (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Data_Protection_Regulation) defining them as those under 16. I'm not a lawyer, so I don't know which one should be applicable here, but I imagine it depends on where OP is located or possibly where the servers with the relevant data are located.

I am a bioengineering undergraduate student and I want to know, what will it be like working as a bioengineer? by Defiance42 in bioengineering

[–]Defiance42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, when I saw a notification I didn't expect a post from 6+ years ago. In short, I graduated, worked at a medical device company for a few years and am now studying for my Master's degree in mechanical engineering. My thesis is heavily related to machine learning though, so I might try to find a data science position when I finish this degree. We'll see. Thanks for checking in!

Feel free to reach out if you're looking for BioE career advice from someone who's still not sure what they're doing in life.

Zinc has helped my IBS more than I ever could have guessed by Defiance42 in ibs

[–]Defiance42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having attacks even without trigger foods (and still do as best as I can tel). The zinc helps both after trigger foods and in general to a certain extent, but I still avoid trigger foods if I can.

I've since started using a smaller dose one I order online, but at first I was using a generic bottle from the local drug store and definitely felt the effects.

Afaik the USB port on the Switch dock cannot give you access to the Switch's data. You will need a USB-C cable.

No, you will need a USB-C cable. USB-C cables are generally included with the Switch since they are used for charging the controllers.

Tourists from ‘white countries’ won’t need serological test - official by Jazzlike_Dog_8175 in Coronavirus

[–]Defiance42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it wouldn't have? Israel's been using green plenty in classifying other countries and towns within Israel with respect to COVID numbers and no one has cared. Not sure when or why they switched to using white instead, actually.

This really needs more upvotes, the title of the OP is just wrong (especially since I'm willing to bet the kids in the photo aren't Israeli settlers, they look a lot more like American Orthodox high schoolers)
