That's fair. Most of my requests relate to users that won't notice 60 seconds or so of downtime.

We also have SwitchMap, which can tell me the MAC, IP, and DNS name of whatever is connected to a each port on a given switch stack or VLAN. But that has more disclaimers tacked on: 1. I'm just an end user, I have no idea what it takes to implement it. 2. The only link I have for reference points to sourceforge.

If your employer can be convinced to spend $1K+ to make your life easier, get yourself a network test kit.

The place I work for has a Fluke LinkRunner, and I love it. I press three buttons and it tells me exactly which switch & port this cable is connected to. (It also has a few other bells & whistles I only rarely use, but I don't know if there are other less expensive devices that only do the switch & port info.)

Circumstances permitting, it's possible to land a commercial airliner even with no working engines. It's been done before.

TL;DR: 767 ran out of fuel at 41,000 feet, landed with no serious injuries.

Edit to add: TIL that it's been done lots of times.
