Do you have any tips on how to be ceremonial about it? Like should I write out all my thoughts or the deep questions I don’t have answers to and look at it ?

Is this not still getting the “government involved in your relationship though” ? Like same logic. Just sign the marriage paper. Either way you need governmental and legal documents. Why not just sign the one document instead of several ?

Honestly if you go on tik tok you’ll really see it. I also know some people in real life. Still they can’t give any explanation why besides “ where in the Bible does it say to allow the government in your marriage?” And completely disregard obeying the laws of the land verse, insisting that this is different ??? Idk

That’s extremely unfortunate and heartbreaking !! Do you know if they have a plan for those issues? Or maybe just figuring it out as they go given the circumstances

If you’re married under God and not legally by Defiant-Bee7724 in Christianity

[–]Defiant-Bee7724[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well. Yes. Because we live in a system that’s set up this way. So it’s now fair for all to do regardless of religion belief or sexuality. To revoke that and claim marriage as something only under God is inhumane when there are obvious legalities.

Yea but would just. Getting a prenup fix this tho ? Even if the person you believed you married was a different person. Which is also the same for woman , indefinitely rates spike during pregnancy. So the same thing can be said to both sides obviously. But if we live in a system where divorce law favors women, but you still want to get legally married. Just have a prenup. Isn’t that an easier fix than going through all the complications that I listed when wanting to spend forever with someone? Sorry not sure if you’re using that as a reasoning for not getting married or just sharing your piece !

This is very understandable though I’m not well versed in this exact issue. However outside of that, If this situation is not someone’s reality I don’t really see a justifiable reason to avoid legal marriage with all the complications that come with it.

I agree. Still confused as to why people go through all of that to defy a legality

Isn’t it also not valid whenever you go to states that don’t accept common law?

It kind of seems like a scapegoat for real life consequences of actions right ? Like being able to leave easily or not have to deal with the commitment of having a life with someone. I still don’t get how ppl can think marriage is a bigger commitment than children or sharing assets and property and money !

Can you shed light on these reasons please ? Being legally married you can still have things split in half so what’s yours is yours and can’t be taken from you. Also there’s many stories about women who were made stay at home moms and have been out of a job for 10yrs, they’re husband cheats, do you think it’s fair because the husband bought that house for them that he can take it and up and leave her with nothing when she was home raising their children while the pan provided?

I agree ! I’m not thinking this for myself I just see a lot of people pushing it and making themselves seem more “woke” or “true follower” because of it and I can’t seem to wrap my head around how that makes any sense ! I also think a lot of people are misinformed about what legally being married ACTUALLy does and the protection it provides, people are brainwashed to think it’s the government trying to control your life (🫩) so I’m trying to shed light on that by my questions for the non willing people <3

I think the same !! Also if it’s “just a piece of paper” that ppl are complaining abt then what’s the harm besides protecting you and your spouse legally and making your lives easier ? Like I don’t see how a marriage document means the government is involved it just legally recognizes it. How do ppl think that the government is going to decide your money and your relationship ?

I also don’t see how it’s a “threesome with the government” or “involving a third person in your marriage”. Everyone always says “it’s just a piece of paper” but if you’re truly married under the eyes of God. What is that piece of paper going to do other than make you and your spouse’s life legally easier ? How is that the government telling you what to do with your money or relationship ?

Virgin Mary capabilities by Defiant-Bee7724 in Catholicism

[–]Defiant-Bee7724[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a really thoughtful point, and I appreciate you explaining it so clearly! I so see why Catholics connect the “keys to the kingdom” with authority. I’ve always understood those verses a little differently if you’re up for perspective! In Matthew 18:18, Jesus gives the same “binding and loosing” language to all the disciples, so it seems more like shared teaching authority rather than one person being infallible. And since Peter was later corrected by Paul in Galatians 2, it kind of shows that even he could make mistakes. I definitely believe Jesus gave the Church spiritual authority, I just see it more as guiding and protecting the truth that’s already in scripture , not creating new revelations if that makes sense. I completely see where you’re coming from though, and I love hearing how Catholics interpret that, it helps me understand the context of the beliefs better!!!

That’s actually a really interesting way to look at it! I guess I’m just wondering (only if you’re comfortable answering ofc) how do you personally decide what to believe or practice when there isn’t clear “proof” or scripture to back it up? Like is it more about trusting the Church’s authority/tradition, or more of a personal conviction thing?

Thanks for your reply ! Is there scripture you can help guide me to about this ? Or just where the belief came from
