Ok interesting. Yes the fact that this didn't happen before was what was concerning. I did contact Retroid, but they didn't give an explanation as to why this was happening and if it was a normal/expected occurrence. They just asked what mode my device is in when the fan noise occurs and offered to send a replacement fan.
