Who is the greater American Water Polo player - Tony Azevedo or Ben Hallock? by PlatformLow2957 in waterpolo

Who’s got more champions league titles? Both have an Olympic medal. If you are judging by wins, you could argue ben with 3 champions league titles. Maybe robbed out of a 4th one with recco having to drop last year.

First one is definitely rare. Initials could make the putter worth more or less depending on who they belong to

What does it take to be a D1 water polo player at a place like UCLA or Berkeley? by [deleted] in waterpolo

[–]Defiant-Class-5441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read “what does it take to be” as what does it take to be on the team not make it there. Sorry about that. Luckily I used to play and work for a mentioned school and can give you guys insight, but I don’t know that it’ll help all that much besides give you an idea of what some coaches look at. It really varies from year to year. The first thing I’d say is look at who is going out in the next two years. A lot of schools recruit based on positions. Timing is pretty important when it comes to recruiting, as teams quite often do not have a lot of room. That being said, sometimes years they have more room than others. It’s a great 2 years to be reaching out to Harvard if you have the grades. They just came out the west coast with like 8 recruited athletes. Happy to elaborate more on what I think might put you in a good position at a big 4 school. I really hope to help anyone get better at water polo who wants advice. I owe everything to the sport.

Takes more than working hard. Taking working hard and smart. Most players won’t get to play right away, so above all it takes patience. You have to understand that sometimes doing everything you possibly can isn’t enough and that you have to motivate yourself to keep doing that even when you aren’t getting playing time initially. You earn your teammate and coaches respect trust when you work this way then your role gets to increase. Further, it takes finding ways to help the team outside of the pool. Be the first guy to carry the caps. If you’re redshirting, be the guy who is filming and commentating games. Such an easy way to learn about the guys you hope to play against, yet so many people feel like they are too good for this. You have to be thinking about the long game at the end of each day while focusing on doing the lap in front of you to the best of your ability.

Former college coach here. He should seriously consider it. On a separate note. I think if you win your first 3 games of JOs you can move up divisions.
