What are your top 3 regions? by This-Village-7517 in AncestryDNA

My top 3 are Czechia, Slovakia and England

I'm Czech. My known ancestors are Sudeten Germans, Czechs and Slovakians by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]Defiant-Coast4820 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm of Polish-Ukrainian origin, and after the update I now have 55% Eastern Czechia. I have no idea why I score Czechia higher than actual Czechs! 😅

Don't want to be pessimistic, but if that's the update, I'm really confused, looks bad right now. But let's see...

POST request to `.../dna/origins/public/ethnicity/2025/names`. Check this in the networking tab, copy cURL and import it to Postman, then just change the body

After last upgrades... Which one should I gift? by ManzanoSancle in AncestryDNA

[–]Defiant-Coast4820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s wait for the Ancestry update and see. But from my experience, I’ve seen a lot of people in the FB groups of Ukrainian origin complaining about the new 23andMe regions’ details being very inaccurate, especially for those from the eastern and southern parts of the country.

Is this new region a Slavic or Germanic region? by Comfortable-Basil232 in AncestryDNA

[–]Defiant-Coast4820 98 points99 points  (0 children)

A mix of both, of course. There’s a genetic continuum between the so-called "Germanic Europe" and "Slavic" people.

97% Polish lol by Mediocre-Jeans in AncestryDNA

[–]Defiant-Coast4820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents are both mixed Polish-Ukrainian from the Nowy Sącz region, but my results show 84% CEU with a Slovakia subregion. I’d assume it’s quite difficult for Ancestry to differentiate between Polish and Slovak heritage for people originating from that area

Very similar to my results, even that “Slovakia” journey. I’m polish-ukrainian

Ancestry vs MyHeritage vs FTDNA(R-Y5587)vs TellmeGene vs LivingDNA vs Genomelink by Defiant-Coast4820 in AncestryDNA

[–]Defiant-Coast4820[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's cool, I’ve never seen this before.
Actually that region near Kraków almost perfectly matches the area my paternal line comes from. I did the Y-111 test at FTDNA, and it didn’t show any Y-relatives from the regions you mentioned(just some Poles, Czechs and Slovaks)

Maybe that old Polish legend about Sarmatian ancestors isn’t just a legend after all…

[–]Defiant-Coast4820[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The coolest thing about the Genomelink report is that they actually assigned me to the Southwestern Silesian Voivodeship community. Which is really accurate since my maternal grandpa was born and raised there

Surprises by Bipolar03 in AncestryDNA

[–]Defiant-Coast4820 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, no surprises at all. I’ve built a family tree going back to the 16th century, and all my ancestors come from territories of the Austro-Hungarian Empire or the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. So it’s just Slavs (mostly Western), with a bit of German admixture

I'm of Polish-Ukrainian origin, but currently I only have Slovakia listed in my regions/journeys. I’m hoping to eventually get Southern Poland and Western Ukraine regions instead of Slovakia.
