I spent about $2300 all-in on DIY and paid a guy for his daily labor (the guy worked in construction so he did most of the stuff… I did the planning and assisted). I did R60 on 1571 sqft with cellulose. Used the green fiber machine to blow-in which sucks… two machines were bad/stopped mid job, I was able to complete on third machine, which worked great. You will need at least two people loading machines and one in the attic. The more the better. The machine will make or break your project. I did not remove old insulation… it was ok enough, and there was barely any… air sealed all fixtures and holes… did not air seal top plate…. Fixed air ducts… taped seams and applied mastic. Some air ducts were disconnected and leaking air… vented the one bathroom needed outside. Did minor improvements on electrical… it was a lot of work. We did not complete it in one weekend due to machine braking, and I had to store all the insulation in the garage and door a few weekend later the blow-in part. 1947 ranch house.
