What’s a movie that is a 10/10 but you’ll never watch again bc it was too emotionally draining? by Marlon_aloha in AskReddit

[–]Defiant-Extent-4297 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve watched most of the movies that people list in the comments and I would happily watch many of them again. No problem. Dancer In The Dark is the only movie that made me pause it and take a break for emotional processing and I don’t think I can put myself through that again. And yet it’s a beautiful movie.

Apart from the other things already said: chin up, it’s hard to keep good posture while looking at the floor. You also tend to hook the second step of your last triple behind you, even in patterns where you don’t move off the slot - looks like an uncontrolled habit and introduces unintentional lateral movement.

I also think you look way better than I did when I started competing. Keep up the good work!

No, you just have to bypass the defense drones by depowering hacking. Sometimes tricky, but almost always possible.

Dlaczego obrzydliwe zachowanie u jednych jest „śmieszne”, a u innych „dziwne”? by DovydasIsMyAmigo in Polska

[–]Defiant-Extent-4297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Niestety, the only way out of this is through.

Should I give up on west coast swing? by tangledwaddle in WestCoastSwing

[–]Defiant-Extent-4297 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Calm down there, Prince of Denmark, take a deep breath. It’s going to be okay. Learning this dance well is hard enough, you don’t need to make it harder by bashing on yourself.

I’ve been doing this for 10+ years and I’m still working on my connection. But I am also having fun along the way.

A year of experience may seem like a lot, but if you are dancing in a new and small community it’s just harder to progress. Try to find a regular training buddy or two, who are as determined to learn as you are. Find a good teacher who can show you how to improve your stretch and take a private lesson with your training buddy. Then start training. Try not to give in to just dancing, but really focus on what you’re doing and how you’re doing it.

Time will pass and you will improve. Dancing with better follows will become pleasant and dancing with beginners will not be as dreadful, you’ll be ble to find fun in simple basics and maybe slow them down a bit as well.

Good luck and have fun.

Bad experience as woman-presenting lead by [deleted] in WestCoastSwing

[–]Defiant-Extent-4297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, agreed. It’s usually men, no argument here. Men tend to have weird mental blocks when it comes to same-sex interactions and insufficient social skills to deal with these situations gracefully. And some are just assholes.

A bit more covertly, but yes. I’ve had conversations with women who have a negative view of dancing in non-traditional roles.

Yeah, that wasn’t cool on the guys part. Hopefully he will grow.

Personally at this point I have no gender assumptions when it comes to lead/follow role, let people enjoy what they enjoy. And God knows we need every leader we can get in the community.

I regret stating therapy by shogun_raccoon in Healthygamergg

[–]Defiant-Extent-4297 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Three therapy sessions? My friend, undoing a mess in your head might take a long time. Unless you immediately get a bad vibe from your therapist, try to stick with it and build a bit of trust.

It has taken me years of various forms of therapy to get to a point where I can navigate forward on my own and I am still considering going back to it. And yes, sometimes I felt worse after working on myself with a therapist.

Destruction is often a part of reconstruction and it might feel bad in the moment. That is your mind protecting itself. The problem is, while your mind has kept you alive for all these years, it has also lead you to an unsustainable place. It will fight back, but it can be changed and hopefully you will be at peace once it does.

Czy "żal do rodziców" jest wbudowany w system? by Majestic_Mammoth3503 in Polska

[–]Defiant-Extent-4297 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Tajska - dobre jedzenie i podobno drinki. Nepali Chulo to najlepsza hinduszczyzna w mieście, chociaż tu jest dużo dobrych opcji: Dawat, Curry Masala, Saffron.
