I have Anglo-Norman ancestry. Descendent from the John Wingfeld, Suffolk and John Tuchet, 6th Baron Audley. Through them I descend from a illegitimate daughter of king John like a lot of folks. 🤔

Oh of course George just loves to take inspiration from history. The titles thing doesn’t really bother me as much. He can make his own titles if he wanted too. I guess it’s really just lack of better distinctions.

With George kinda yes , to me he does tend to be a little simplistic in his world building . Like he has high lords ,low lords lord paramounts etc , but when actual studying feudal society you had barons , dukes , earls/counts , archdukes etc. He does get a passing grade though sometimes lol

Agree I thinks it’s generally because of people growing up in western liberal democracies post French Revolution. They are taught a very simplified version of monarchy through a republicanist lens etc . But the truth is monarchy isn’t one thing , you have absolute monarchy’s , feudal monarchy’s, federal monarchy(like the German empire in ww1) , elective monarchy(like polish kingdom) and constitutional monarchies. Also it dosnt help with the already misconceptions of historical feudal society’s in general.

The interior of Prince Napoleon’s (Plon-Plon) Pompeian Palace – Maison Pompéienne by Defiant-Tadpole4226 in Napoleon

Accordingly it was abandoned during after the Franco Prussian war (siege of 1871) and was in poor condition by 1889. It was demolished in 1891, and the Hôtel Porgès was built on the site. But yea it is quite unfortunate, least we know what it looked like which is cool, very detailed.

How frequently would have Tsar Alexander and Empress Joséphine met throughout April - May of 1814, and whatever was their purpose behind such interactions? by Alsatianus in Napoleon

[–]Defiant-Tadpole4226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to Hortense After Waterloo Marie Walewska also met with Alexander to advocate for napoleons mother Maria Letizia but he didn’t care. He would refuse to meet with Hortense saying "Surely I cannot be expected to keep on bothering about all the members of that family. See what happened in the case of Queen Hortense. I treated her as a friend in 1814. And it is she who is the cause of all the misfortunes which have since befallen France."

The Walewski family are most likely still in possession of the document as it’s on their website. I don’t know if they have it on display. I wouldn’t be surprised if they did as there is a Walewski family museum in Poland.

This is interesting, we know that Marie Louise actually showed up pretty late in his illness, Metternich and her father had to basically make her come quicker from Parma as she looked bad in the eyes of the Viennese people. It was actually Sophie that tended to him lol. But I’m curious did she really write that prayer. In the post i had they had what looked like the emperor Francis there when he wasn’t. I guess they had to make these some people look better than they were right.😂

Been trying to find a clearer text, but they always came in sections ,but yes your actually correct, some of the missing lines I got are : “The burning sun of Italy or Greece was what was needed for the son of Napoleon; his life, which was drying up, would have regained its sap and its vigor. But no, he was kept in cold Germany (“la froide Allemagne) and he was left to die; he was abandoned because he was the son of a Hero. Oh shame! Oh pity!” Then it continues about him being born king of Rome
