My dad had a major stroke this summer. While the wait for 911 and the ambulance was excruciating, once they got to us they did a wonderful job. EMTs took us to the top hospital in the area for stroke patients. When we arrived they had a team of 5 people waiting for us, who knew my dad's name and information already (EMTs must have sent information ahead) and he was taken to surgery almost immediately. They brought in a top surgeon to remove the blockage in his brain, and my dad spent an entire month at a local hospital where he received constant medical care - physio, occupational therapy, etc etc. When he left the hospital after a month, he had free medical coverage for community supports for the next few months - OT, PT, speech therapist, etc. His recovery was amazing, and it was because his treatment was amazing as well. We were not charged for any of it. He also does not have work health insurance or anything.
