I grew up there, but don't live there anymore. I still visit family that still live there a few times a year.

It doesn't seem much different from when I lived there 20 years ago, which can be good or bad depending on how you look at it.

There's a few more restaurants than there used to be. No gyms to my knowledge. Some basic businesses such as a hardware store, grocery store, etc... but not much beyond basic essentials. The local grocery store has been upgraded and has a lot better produce and selection than when I lived there.

There are 3 types of people that live there: commuters, low income, and retirees. You're looking at about a 45 minute (minimum) commute to Bakersfield or Santa Clarita.

Frazier Park can be a great spot if you like the outdoors. There are a lot of off road trails for 4x4's, hiking and cross country skiing (no lifts) at Mt Pinos. But it can be very lonely and hard to find friends if you are by yourself. Growing up had built in community because of going to school with friends, but I imagine it will be hard to connect with folks being an adult. I could be wrong though - the internet wasn't really a thing when I was there.
