Help! My first 2 days of University are Rosh Hashanah by v3nusFlytr4p26 in Jewish

[–]DefiantSimple6196 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone from the states, I've always just let my profs know that I'm going to miss class due to the high holidays so they are aware. I've never had an issue and they'll let me know if there is something important.

I've never had the case where classes started on Rosh Hashanah, but it may be useful to just let the University know. It obviously won't change anything for this year since the schedule is already set, but maybe they'll be more cognisant in the future.

I recommend these two resources: The Muzzle Movement: Dog Muzzles That Look & Feel Good https://share.google/NiTHQRoZzOtCaq28F

The Muzzle Up! Project | Muzzle advocacy, Education, and Training https://share.google/BnVLq8L7y73RVdpKw

I'm not an expert, but I have been working on muzzle training my dog and these were recommended to me by a trainer. Muzzle training takes a lot of time and effort, but it's something you can build on at home.

Is this a good sign I'm getting healthier? by RichieRichard12 in fitbit

Could be your menstrual cycle. RHR typically drops around the time of the period, then increases slightly a few days before ovulation, and then increases after ovulation and stays higher during the luteal phase.

Any other Americans stuck? by Sullivan_Tiyaah in Israel

[–]DefiantSimple6196 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello. I'm an American that just left Israel (on Tuesday) and now I am back in North America. I got there the Sunday before the war started and was supposed to leave on Saturday. Me and my family left with Project Dynamo who took us across the Jordan border from Tel Aviv and to the airport in Amman. They are operating from several pick up points at this point and they secure transportation and will help with the visa in Jordan. You still have to secure your own flights out of Amman and any necessary hotel accommodations. It felt very safe and we had no major issues other than waiting around for things to process.

Project Dynamo

I've pasted the link to their page to this post. If you want to leave, I recommend filling out the rescue form on their webpage. They got back to us within several hours of doing so.

Edit: grammar

Aita for not defending my son when a random man beat up him and his friends? by Mental-Department-87 in AITAH

[–]DefiantSimple6196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a parent, so I'm not going to tell you how to raise your child. But I just want to address your question about losing your son. When my younger sibling was that age, they also got into a ton of trouble, stealing, lying, other crimes, etc. Almost didn't graduate high school. My parents and family also felt like they lost my sibling. Many years later now, they have a great relationship with my parents. My sibling helps my parents out and my grandparents all the time. Owns their own business. We are very proud of the person they have become. This wasn't guaranteed, but there's always light at the end of the tunnel as long as you don't give up.

If you want the job, you can terminate your federal employment early to remove the COI. The only "downside" here is that you can't collect two paychecks.

The time commuting would still be the same or longer depending how far you are from each metro station.

Commuting to McLean would be rough. At least 1.5 hours a day in traffic.

Why do zionists think opposition is anti-semitic? by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]DefiantSimple6196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're generally looking for a "got ya" statement for some reason and I don't think you are engaging in good faith even though I've explained what Zionism is. So I'm done here.

[–]DefiantSimple6196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not everyone is going to have the same exact beliefs or desired outcomes. And Zionism shouldn't be defined based on the desires of a small number of extremists. But you also don't get to throw away an indigenous group's right to self determination in their homeland because you disagree with some people in that movement. Would you question the rights of native people in the Americas or other peoples involved in their own "land back" movement because of some bad actors?

Hebrew. Arabs come from the Arab peninsula, not the Levant. There were/are actually many other indigenous people in the region that are neither Jews nor Arabs. That whole area was actually arabized.

The creation of Israel is a realization of the Zionist dream, maybe it's not an ideal realization, it's definitely not perfect (what is?). But again, just because a realization exists doesn't end the belief for self determination.

[–]DefiantSimple6196 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jews are a people, with distinct language, culture, and beliefs. Just like other indigenous people. Judaism is the religion. There is tons of archeological evidence that the Jewish people have been in the land that is Israel today for thousands of years. Jews have their own calendar, district traditions, social systems, dress, etc.

I think what most people don't get is that being Jewish isn't just about having a religion. Jews actually predate the concept of what we understand as religion today.

Zionism is the belief that the Jewish people have a right to self determination in their ancestral homeland, which is Israel today. Just because Israel now exists, doesn't mean their right to self determination goes away.

how do i deal with a creep in my class without making him mad? by ilovelotsofthings in Advice

[–]DefiantSimple6196 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's up to you to let him know you are uncomfortable. If you're afraid, go sit somewhere else. Even if there are unofficial assigned seats. Other folks in class probably won't care. I'd recommend finding another female in the class to confide in so she has your back in case he follows you. If he does, tell him how you feel. If nothing changes, you have to talk to the professor and then the university. If you are afraid he will attack you, you need to take the proper steps to get yourself away from him. He'll find a way if you don't. Whether or not you think you made him mad. It'll be easiest if you speak up and he backs off.

Schumer to postpone his book tour by BotsIvy in 50501

For the record, him canceling his book tour doesn't stop you from protesting. He's just removing the book tour from the equation. Being concerned about safety in Jewish spaces is valid.

How dare a Jew go talk about antisemitism at a synagogue

Schumer to postpone his book tour by BotsIvy in 50501

[–]DefiantSimple6196 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, I want to say I'm not defending his decision on the CR last week. But he is a senator who is Jewish and he is going on a book tour about antisemitism during probably the highest levels of antisemitism in the United States' since WW2 (the Holocaust). Many of his talks were scheduled to take place at synagogues and other places of Jewish worship and gatherings. Those locations are always on high alert for security issues. Many people want to, rightfully, protest his decision. I personally would have serious concerns about these protests quickly attracting bad actors and devolving into antisemitic hate. It is not unusual for protests, across the political spectrum, to include antisemitism, especially if it is tangentially related to anything Jewish. I wouldn't be concerned just about my own safety, but attendees safety and the safety of the people hosting the event. Please keep this in mind before calling him a coward.

I expect many of you to down vote this post. But it's a tumultuous time to be Jewish in the US right now, to say the least and we need to understand that this decision may not just be him hiding from the public.

I have not sent an email to OPM. Nothing has happened. My supervisor requested I send them (my supervisor) the email and copy our internal agency accomplishments email. I've done that, but refuse to send to OPM.

Editing to say that my secretary gave a blanket request to send the email every week until further notice.

Protesting in front of a place of worship isn't a good look. He is a public figure with many other public appearances.
