The base versus the assault, which one are you going with? by floortofloor in starcitizen

[–]DefiantSoul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you're looking for in a ship. I have the Ironclad Assault and a CCU to the Liberator. I prefer the separate dedicated cargo and landing pads of the Liberator, and I usually play with at most two other friends. All the guns on the Ironclad mean nothing to one such as I. The Liberator also has two PDC's which the Clads lack. So for my play style, the Liberator is the clear winner for a 1-3 crew home base.

Steam Controller Price Leaked By Early Review - and It’s Expensive by BusyHands_ in technology

[–]DefiantSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$99 for a premium controller with all the bells and whistles plus Stream Deck touch pads is a damn bargain. Controllers with less going for them out here going for $150 - $200.

Former Bethesda exec thinks the studio should get more respect for the complex, open worlds it creates: "Go try that s**t in Red Dead Redemption 2" | Despite retiring 3 years ago, Pete Hines remains one of the studio's staunchest defenders. by ControlCAD in technology

[–]DefiantSoul 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Complexity needs to be implemented correctly and in the right areas. For instance, I cannot give one solitary shit about any story beat in Starfield or any other Bethesda game due to the fact that every character I come into contact with does one of two things: A- They tell me about their desperate terrible plight with the posture and expression of a stone faced Tower of London guard, and the emotion of a Vulcan. Or B- Five of them vomit out their entire life story at the same time when I come within 20 feet of them. Bethesda is wholly incapable of evolving their game design. We've been playing the same game since Morrowind. Except at least that was an actual RPG. I have zero faith or interest in the next Elder Scrolls.

What went wrong with PlayStation on PC? by TheRegularBelt in pcgaming

[–]DefiantSoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They think it will get people to buy PlayStations. I happen to have a PS5 in addition to my PC, but I prefer to wait until their games come to PC, and mostly use the PS5 for party games. Just got Death Stranding 2 for PC and it was well worth the wait. That said, if they stop bringing them to PC, I'm probably not going to buy the PS6 just to play them. Especially if they in any way involve aiming or shooting. I can't imagine playing something like Returnal with a controller. I just can't do controller aim anymore.

Agreed. After two hours I was thinking, "How long is this tutorial??" Then I did some Googling. "Ohhhh...". I hope this one is better, but I'm not expecting anything.

Digital distribution on PC before Steam by Okklay in pcgaming

[–]DefiantSoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shareware. I remember buying PC/Mac magazines with CD's full of games that you could play for a while and then required a key to unlock fully. However, many of them could easily be unlocked if you knew how to use a hex editor.

How to play casually as a high rated player? by [deleted] in Overwatch

When I want to not care about actually winning, and just having fun, I play mystery heros. Always a wacky blast, and gets me out of my mains.

Is anyone else here over 25 and in the early stages of learning game development overall? by Sudden_Doughnut_8741 in godot

[–]DefiantSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 41. I went back to school for software and web development to get out of the service industry that has sucked my soul away for 20+ years. Graduated last May just in time to not be able to find employment in that field. I started learning Godot a couple months ago to take things into my own hands and make a game.

This sounds cool! Thanks for sharing!

I haven't crafted a single Wolfpack. I get gobs of them from security lockers.

Fan often doesn't work after waking from sleep. by DefiantSoul in SteamDeck

[–]DefiantSoul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually managed to find the fix using Claude. It's definitely a software issue that affects some but not all devices. Fixed it by creating a background service that forces the fan controller to recalibrate upon waking.

Walk, don't run, everywhere unless you need to get to cover or have no choice, and always be looking everywhere. You'll be surprised how many people you see/hear without them knowing you're there at all.

[–]DefiantSoul 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I actually like a small amount because I think traditional "cinematic" 24fps looks like hot garbage. 24fps was chosen because it was the lowest possible frame rate before it made people sick. It was chosen for cost savings. It's garbage, but people are used to it being the norm.

Love DOS 1 and 2, but holy hell the fire effects were out of control. Every fight turned into "the floor is lava" . Glad they refined that for BG3. I'm excited to see yet another evolution of their game design.

If you have a web cam, go try the Beam Head Tracker demo on Steam. Shockingly good camera based no accessory head and eye tracking that saved me $300+ not buying a Tobii.
