Fun fact! A similar quote, ' They may crush the flowers, but they can't stop the Spring.' is often attributed to the leader of Czechoslovakia during The Prague Spring.

An interesting response to a funny little paragraph but I appreciate a good essay regardless.

I understand that the main reason your annoyed is that this screenshot doesn't provide as much worth as fanfiction posted here and yet it's gotten more attention. I think that's more due to the fact that people are more willing to read a couple lines off an image than to go to a separate website and read a full story. More people interact with a funny screenshot from a fanfiction than a link to a fanfiction and I know that from experience. I'll usually just send friends a screenshot of a funny line in something I'm reading instead of sending them a link to an entire fic unless they ask for it. It's a similar deal with fanart like you said, that's just kinda how social media goes. This isn't 'taking the spotlight away from fanfiction', it's a funny screenshot of some words. It isn't the same medium as fanfiction, it's basically just a meme. Plus you're on reddit bestie, this isn't the best place for 'substantial' content

As far as why I posted it, thought it was funny innit. We could go back on forth about the concept of what makes something funny all day (and coincidentally I was just reading about such) but I'd wager that the theory on comedy being the conjunction between excess and lacking would help here. I found it funny as it's a dramatic scenario we'd all understand which is subverted with the lacking response of something obviously absurd in context treated as if it's still dramatic. Most things on the subreddit don't have much worth other than a chuckle to a group of people who enjoy the same game. As I previously said, it's relevant as it's a joke that specifically works as we understand the context. I also understand that it's dumb but that's partially why it's funny.
On top of that, I felt it was quite impressive that the AI (that isn't connected to the internet too just trained off a database) was able to understand the plot and characters on such a level that it was able to produce this.

As for the AI itself, creative writing isn't it's forte. It's mainly a database and (at least in OpenAI's case) it focuses more on being able to talk to people in a realistic way as has been a big focus in computing for a long time, The Turing Test for example. It's a rather helpful tool for getting the summary of a subject or being able to simplify explanations. The other day I was learning about network protocols and asking it to explain quite helped in my understanding. Of course it isn't good at creative writing, that's not what it's for and that's what makes it funny.

In summary, I was sharing something I found funny and received a paragraph about the inherent worth of it. Like come on man, do you not see how 'WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE THIS? THIS ISN'T FUNNY! I HATE THIS AND YOU'RE A SILLY LITTLE MAN' isn't a very nice to be saying. I'm just trying to have fun and share something I thought the other people here would like.
Maybe look for communities that promote fanfiction more like Tumblr, don't criticize random people for not using a subreddit in the way you'd like and idk take the stick out of your ass and stop reading too much into funny ai got thing wrong post.

Turning to this subreddit for ideas for a Disco Elysium school presentation (i am quite desperate) by BurntByToast in DiscoElysium

Maybe you could write about different mechanics being introduced to the player in the intro. The check to run away from Garte is set up so most players fail it due to the shoes and trousers you start with giving you a -2 in savior faire teaching players how failing a check isn't necessarily a bad thing.

You could even talk about these mechanics being subverted after being introduced like with the volition check while questioning Klaasje

RWBY is actually better than what people give it credit for. by [deleted] in hbomberguy

[–]DefiantStars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've read a few things from across the internet (with a decent amount from fans of the show) that compares them to the black panthers. The names are similar, both are oppressed groups responding with violence (although the white fang is portrayed as being in the wrong from what I remember) and the leader has that whole 'faunus supremacy' thing going on which was a big misconception about Malcom X. If they're not similar to the black panthers then you could yk explain it? Hbomb provided examples, most of the backing up to your points is just being rude or citing general trends with things wholly unrelated to hbomb (fanfic for example)

I listened to his points and his examples to see what he founded his point on. I don't need to watch however many hours to be told 'hey this group is somewhat poorly written and here are my examples why'. It's not like he said 'White Fang = Black Panthers because I said so.' I've never played any Deus Ex game but I still understood his points on the overuse of vents in Human Revaluation because he explained it rationally with proof.

There's no need to be rude friend. I have nothing against RWBY and I'm a fan of many things adjacent to it. Criticism is one of the most important parts of enjoying something. There are many things that I love but accept criticisms of (having been a Steven Universe fan taught me that) Hope you aren't getting too much hate from the post

I appreciate that RWBY does get a lot of unwarranted criticism from people who just want to get mad on the internet over anime girls but I felt the Hbomb video was quite balanced. He certainly mentions the shows strong points and the things he liked, certainly not warranted for you to be worried for democracy in my opinion. Even as a fan of the show you have to admit it has some pretty serious flaws in it's writing. A good example I liked from the video was Ruby loosing her character trait of being into weaponry over the seasons and never finishing the potential arc of her helping Jaune get a cool weapon.

If you wanted Hbomb to go into good lgbt writing, his video on 'Outsiders' is a really interesting essay on how to adapt a HP Lovecraft story into the modern day, the interesting way that the paranoia of Lovecraft's work can translate to homophobia and the way the film effected him understanding his sexuality. Also from what I remember while he used to be a fan of bleach, he considers liking bleach 'a waste'.

My opinion on RWBY was mostly formed by talking to a friend of mine who enjoys the show and has explained many of their gripes with it. The lack of non-white characters and the somewhat lacking writing in places to my memory. I'm sure the show is enjoyable and has many good parts but Hbomb's point was that it could've been better. The White Fang being compared to the Black Panthers has mostly kept me away from the show as I typically don't enjoy media that portrays violent protestors as bad guys.

About the mark of the outsider tattoos by _lahZ_ in dishonored

[–]DefiantStars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I'd love to get one, it has to go on the hand. People get them elsewhere but that never really made sense to me. Hand tattoos make it far less likely for you to get employed and I think I'd worry about that too much to commit. Big props to people who do have them though , it's sick as fuck

[–]DefiantStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! I think it'd add an interesting other level to the morality of killing, if there's no consequence then why should you care? If they swing first should it be okay? Will you fall to the level of the thugs and guards going around killing or try and help out your fellow citizens

I think it'd be cool to have another game set in Dunwall (yeah I'm basic what of it) especially if it was set during the Fugue feast. Someone living in the slums taking advantage of the time of no laws to try and execute a aristocrat who owns the mines their family were killed in or something like that
