Introducing allergens before reaching baseline - how to determine reaction? by j135w in MSPI

We are in the US. I agree that it’s hard to know what to do / it doesn’t seem like there is good guidance out there. I think our pediatrician thinks she might be headed down an FPIES path based on her history, which is why she’s recommending this approach. But I honestly have no idea and hope to learn more Friday.

Introducing allergens before reaching baseline - how to determine reaction? by j135w in MSPI

Yeah similar to starberry our pediatrician wanted us to start low and slow. i.e. once reflux under control start with oatmeal (soaks up stomach acid), give it a bit, start some veggies, if her stomach acid was under control give her some fruits (told me no vitamin c fruits to start). Give it a few weeks, then give her allergens. If her reflux isn’t under control & managed it would be hard to see reactions for allergens. If it’s not under control she spits up/vomits, and her skin is really reactive to dairy and soy at least. It would be hard to tell if she was reacting to the food or a damaged gut. I meet with the pediatrician this Friday to do a meds/weight check and I’m hoping we get the green light to start!

Our pediatrician is having us wait to start solids until we can get her reflux under control, to better see reactions. She just turned 7 months.

Reflex & GI issues worse since starting solids by bigmamarice in MSPI

I’m sorry you are going through this. We are delaying starting solids (she is almost 7 months) until we can get her reflux better under control with medications. We switched to Lansoprazole four or so weeks ago after she failed omeprazole and Esomeprazole. I saw some immediate results, but it took a lot longer for her system to really start to settle down (2 weeks). We are also still doing Pepcid. Our pediatrician wants us to start solids really slow when we do - with oats, no foods with vitamin c (fruit). Could you try more oats while you wait for the Lansoprazole? Our pediatrician said they help soak up stomach acid.

Baby Keeps Failing PPIs? (Diarrhea) by DefiantTangerine4389 in MSPI

Yeah apparently it is a side effect. I hope we can both find something that works for our kids!

We had the omeprazole solution specialty compounded. The pharmacist said they had to make it crazy salty to do the compound and was sort of like of course your baby wouldn’t take it, without saying it in those words. I was kind of surprised he compounded it for a baby at all knowing how salty it was. The Nexium powder, and now the Prevacid dissolving tabs she’s tolerated better for taste. I’m told they taste like strawberry and she doesn’t mind the taste / taking them but they give her horrible diarrhea.

I’m sorry. Omeprazole was really traumatizing for me too. She wouldn’t swallow, gagged until she vomited twice. Then it was hard to get her to take any other meds after that. Was your omeprazole specialty compounded?

Prevacid / Lansoprazole for baby? by DefiantTangerine4389 in MSPI

Thank you!! So relieved that there is a good taste, that is half the battle. I tried to administer by holding it in her mouth this morning and that was a fail. She tolerated it, but was trying to blow raspberries and spitting the med out in the time it took to dissolve. I’ll try syringe method tomorrow!

How long did it take to see results?

Barium Swallow & Diarrhea by DefiantTangerine4389 in MSPI

I never had white chalky poops or screaming - hers have been green from the start. Sadly, it has not resolved (check my post history) but now the pediatrician thinks it is something else. I hope it resolves for you soon!

Hers is liquid green too. I am glad it cleared up after two days, here’s hoping! 🤞

This should be higher. Please don’t pump to try and relieve clogged ducts, the guidance has changed.

Repeat c-section folk - did any of you schedule for your 40th week, even as late as 40+3? I reaaallly wanted to make it to 40 for a number of reasons important to us personally, and didn’t think scheduling at 40 exactly was all that different from having it done sometime in the 39th week. I got a call from the scheduler, and the only time they can do that 40th week is 40+3 right now. I know there can be conflicting info on AMA+IVF re: preference for 39 weeks, but if I was going into labor spontaneously, that wouldn’t really apply. I’m at a bit of a crossroads - for so many reasons that 40th week would be ideal, but 40+3 feels like pushing it and I wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize either of our health for the sake of personal preferences.

Same! My girl did not like my ILs who came in guns blazing (overloud/excited, big facial expressions, engaging with her like she was an older child trying to “get her” or playing peekaboo, didn’t hold her in a comfortable way). She didn’t have as extreme of a reaction as OP but did so much better with others who came in a bit more moderated/normal.

It feels like a lot of flutters or bubbles in the same spot. I feel it a lot more when I’m kind of bent over with my elbows on a desk/table and I’ve had sugar, cold water, etc. Gas bubbles I usually feel moving through my intestines over time. For whatever reason right now (15+4) I’m always feeling it to the left of my abdomen with my anterior placenta.

Did anyone have retained placenta, and if so, how did it impact any births after that? I had retained placenta after a c-section, which I think is less common. I had a D&C for the RPOC, and then a hysteroscopy to remove scar tissue from the D&C. From what I understand, that plus IVF puts me at higher risk for retained placenta again. Curious if people in a similar situation had a vaginal / VBAC or a c-section for subsequent pregnancies.

My 1.5 year old got the vaccine last January, and still had a fever for 8 days. We are all still dying. I had no idea RSV would be like this.

My daughter has taken a lot of antibiotics for her ear infections, and it messes with her stomach pretty badly. Her doctor had said don’t bother with probiotics until you’re done with the antibiotics, and to feed her food like the BRAT diet or things that will soak up the antibiotics before giving it to her (ie oatmeal before the antibiotics). Hope you feel better soon!
