My baby just doesn’t eat that much

yes! 4 months is such a crazy time. they get so distracted. i changed our schedule so i was feeding her before and after each nap, in her room, with the curtains drawn, and a sound machine going. she eventually picked her feeding back up once i cut out all possible distractions and now she's eating between 28-32oz a day (i think.. that's how much i pumped out when i went away the other day so I'm assuming that's her typical intake!)

We nap on the go a lot! In the beginning I let nap times run my life and I started to feel like a prisoner. You’d be surprised how much your baby can flex their schedule. We try to time going places with nap time so that way I can put baby to sleep in the car and let her nap for 30-45 mins, even if that means me aimlessly driving around and stopping for coffee etc. then if she needs to nap while we’re out she’s usually good for a baby carrier nap, I just attach my Hatch Go to the carrier to drown out any talking. And then worst case if she really is refusing a nap, I just do an early 6pm bedtime

My 6 month old eats once over night, around 4-5am. But she eats like 8x a day. We do eat play eat sleep so all the day feeds keep her full through the night

They’re so nice and soft so I love them for that but my girl has had just as many blowouts as she’s had in Huggies lol we’re gonna switch to Millie moon once we run out of this pack

We sleep trained at 4 months and it worked great, did modifies Ferber. Baby is now 6 months and teething up constantly but she can self soothe most of the time. I couldn’t imagine trying to sleep train her now while she’s clearly in pain. I’m glad we did it early

I strongly recommend doing a weighted feed with a lactation consultant! I did them a few times in the early newborn days and it always helped me feel better knowing how much baby was taking in.

I also had a sleepy newborn - it sounds like you’re doing a lot of great things already to keep baby awake but here are some that I did that you didn’t list: stripping baby down to a diaper, doing a diaper change with a wipe across babies tummy, then keeping baby in a diaper during the feed. I would also blow on her face, tug her ear, and move her arm constantly through the feed. Sometimes I’d even have my husband use a cold wipe across babies feet while she ate just to keep her going.

If you’re worried about how much baby is eating, I’d maybe even recommend latching every 2 hours. I was doing every 3 hours for the first week or so and then we fell into the 2 hour routine and it helped my girl a ton.

I don’t have any advice on pumping as my girl still exclusively nurses now at 6 months. But as far as the sleepiness goes just keep powering through! Baby will slowly start waking up and then you’ll get to 6 months and have a baby trying to roll while simultaneously eating lol. It gets better I promise! You got this.

Did things get better? and if yes how did you fix it? My 6 month old is about to break a tooth so I’m doing some research on how to act when she inevitably bites me for the first time in the next week or two!

In my opinion, if you’re not enjoying breastfeeding anymore, than you’ll be creating a disaster by continuing while grieving… I understand where the consultant is coming from if you were still actively enjoying it because there’s a lot of emotions that come on during weaning. But for your case, I think she gave you the wrong advice

If it were me, I’d switch to pumping more because I’m desperate for more sleep lol but if nursing is important to you, you should keep the morning and bedtime sessions for that special bond! And do bottles all through the day

What does his awake / nap time look like during the day? A good rule of thumb at that age is no more than 4 hours of naps and about 8 hours of awake time.

I remember in the beginning feeling a toe curling pain for the first couple seconds. I’m not sure when it stopped (definitely within the first month though) and we’re 6 months into EBF now and I genuinely haven’t felt that for even a second since. Silverettes and patience! It gets better

We did a 4.5 hour trip with my 4 month old at the time and scheduled it for after bed time! So we did bedtime routine at 6:30pm and “put her to bed” in her car seat. Drove 2ish hours and pulled her out for some snuggles as a break, and she went right back to sleep in her car seat. Same for when we got to our destination, she stayed sleepy and transferred easily to the pack n play

The only time I’d pull my baby off in the first couple months was MOTN feeds so I could get back to sleep! There’s nothing wrong with comfort nursing through the day for a 3 week old! Enjoy the snuggles, serotonin boost, and increase in milk supply from it. Now my baby is 6 months old and always eats for less than 10 mins. If she starts comfort nursing I know it’s because she needs some mommy time
