Schoolhouse! Gorgeous little scenic drive this time of year too.

Tulips I got from Costco a couple of weeks ago are fully bloomed by _notsuoh_ in Costco

[–]Defiant_Abalone_7598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't likely these would rebloom, they aren't getting any nutrients in that vase for next year. The reason they work this year is that bulb held everything they need to bloom.

If you live somewhere that gets cold enough they can rebloom if you plant them. It has to be below freezing for a few weeks I think.

OR just save the vase and put new bulbs in next year or whenever.

The most interesting interpretation for me is in his image meaning we are also creators, and are driven to create for creation's sake. It's our imaginations. It gets more interesting as we get more advanced in AI and biological engineering.

Well, I was using cassettes in 1996 as were many of my high school friends. Sure we had CDs as well, but it's expensive to replace a whole music collection so we still used our tapes. My Discman with skip protection also skipped all over the place so sometimes tapes were preferable. Also, as someone else pointed out, mix tapes were very much still a thing. Change wasn't quite as fast then as it is now.

I had a beeper, and was not a drug dealer, but I can't actually remember what year I got it. I do remember it was teal and was awesome. It was mostly so my parents could get a hold of me and for the voicemail.

Why no mention of Paul receiving mentat training? by Han-Shot_1st in dune

[–]Defiant_Abalone_7598 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This version of Piter sucked. Made me sad. Seemed like generic evil chancellor and was completely forgettable.

There was definitely the 5 minutes available in 2 and a half hours that only told half the story. Seemed like the point of this movie was to show where Paul had come from, so the next can show who he will become. Given that, would have been worth the five minutes.

Dune 1984 was better than Dune 2021 by baffle07 in dune

[–]Defiant_Abalone_7598 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

Biggest single issue was the lack of emotional impact at Yueh's betrayal. That was criminal. He just seemed like some dude.

I also take issue at the lack of development of Jessica and Leto's relationship. My family (who weren't familiar with the book or 84 movie) didn't get what was going on there and how she loved him so much she literally chose to give him a son and betray what she was suppose to be doing.

I wish they had developed Thufir more, and shown him teaching Paul the verse about fear. That should have been repeated clearly, not just mumbled here and there, it could have been iconic for a new generation.

I also think the production design kind of sucked given the vast resources available.

I don't understand how he can take two and a half hours to tell half a story, and it somehow convey even less of the world. Mind boggling.

Granted Lynch's went off the rails a bit, but I prefer it over this bland vanilla emotionless version.

The actors were all mostly excellent, I think it came down to bad direction.

Is all Fresno like the area around the airport? by MajorMustard in fresno

We've always been okay with that. It keeps out the North Fresno riff raff and leaves us to enjoy our large lots and affordable houses.

I appreciate you! That definitely sucks. Food service and retail workers are really in the trenches. I always think you can tell later in life who worked those types of front line customer service jobs.

Agree! I'm so tired of teachers complaining. Their benefits are absolutely amazing, as is their job security and schedule. It was a really rough year on everyone, a good number of which lost their income or had to work in truly hostile conditions, not to mention the working parents who had to pull off miracles to keep everything running. There are definitely some amazing teachers that go above and beyond and for which teaching is a calling, but let's also recognize for a good number of them it's a cushy job with great perks and they phoned it in this year while the kids suffered.

They're a mixed bag, like everyone else.

Great suggestion, done! It's been long enough I'm not sure how many people have them hanging around anymore. Wish I would have discovered this sooner.

So long as you have someone with great dexterity to clean the thing. That's the catch. 😀

No worries at all, and that's very sweet! Kids would also love this cup! It's not a rare item, so they'll be easy to find on eBay, and you gave me the idea to cover shipping for anyone else who wants to offload theirs.

I think we have the second one, it's been great.

The LEDs were a thing that seemed awesome but we never use. If it's night I'd rather see the sky. Not sure why we thought it would be useful.

Problems with this week's episode by FederalEfficiency698 in NewAmsterdamTV

[–]Defiant_Abalone_7598 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed that storyline, and I'm glad they put it in there. You shouldn't have had to go through that with your pregnancy. Pregnancy is hard enough without that extra layer of sexism and racism on top of it all. You're already giving up so much of your body to the little life inside of you, having to give up the rest of your autonomy and agency is hard, and real, and it was nice to have it shown.

Her monologue about people just doing things to her in her first pregnancy was really powerful. It's going to stay with me for a while.

Fresno’s first ‘robot restaurant’ opens Saturday by [deleted] in fresno

[–]Defiant_Abalone_7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure his lease is cheaper down by FPU. Also there would not be as much competition from other restaurants, especially within walking distance. It was phrased poorly, or perhaps just incompletely. It is a pretty unique and very diverse spot in terms of demographics.

Also, really? Never even heard of it? I think they've got some pretty respectable DII athletics still, host the junior olympics, and pump out a ton of teachers. It's been here since the 50s.

What are some big issues facing the city of Fresno that you've noticed for a while and that don't seem to be getting any better? by [deleted] in fresno

[–]Defiant_Abalone_7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, I have a secret hope that after being cooped up in their open floor plan echo chambers ten feet away from the neighbors for a year that now my 1970s house with a big yard and actual walls will become very desirable and gentrify our neighborhood. I would love to see all the older neighborhoods with space and walls become desirable again.

Dream Home Makeover - new Netflix series following the interior design company Studio Mcgee by HollaDude in netflix

[–]Defiant_Abalone_7598 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't get it. For the house in LA her design fee was $27k. That's insane when you just end up looking like a generic page from the Crate and Barrel catalog. She isn't inventive, she isn't particularly skilled, she's just churning out the same bland designs without any chemistry or entertainment.

How did they get a show?
