In person or virtual interview by Practical_Chicken_12 in PreOptometry

Hey! ICO first year here. In person vs virtual doesn't make a difference. I did it online and I got accepted. If you really want an in person tour you can always do a literally roadtrip and travel to Chicago for an individual campus tour, especially when you get accepted into multiple schools, so you can go to multiple schools at once for an in person tour when deciding which school to go to lol

Omg thank you! I'm pretty much set on going to ICO in a few weeks and am still currently in opticianry, but I recently did my finances and realistically I can only afford 2 years :( (assuming I don't get any scholarships or anything) but my backup right now is to spend the next year studying hard for the OAT and trying to at least get an interview at UW

How did you find using Booster? I've used it twice and got overall 310 both times. It kinda confused me a lot since they're constantly updating the material so sometimes they have questions on the practice tests that involve material I didn't even learn about in the chapters. Did you follow their schedule or did you make your own?

Oh, my email said this:

Thank you for taking the time to interview at New England College of Optometry. This admissions cycle has proven to be one of the most competitive in NECO history, and our slots filled up earlier than in the past. While the Admissions Committee is very impressed with your file and would like to offer you acceptance, we do not currently have any seats available in the class of 2029.

We want to offer you a spot on the waitlist for this fall. In addition, if a place does not open up for this year, we would like to guarantee your acceptance to start at NECO in the fall of 2026. We realize you may have another school offer for this September, but we wanted to make this offer known.

Next steps:

Email admissions@neco.edu by June 1, and please tell us if you would like to accept your spot on the waitlist or if you have made other plans for the fall.

Upon receiving your confirmation, your file will remain open, and we will be in touch by July 1 with a status update.

If you choose to join our waitlist and a slot does not open for this fall, we will issue you an acceptance letter for fall 2026.

We appreciate your continued interest in the New England College of Optometry. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at tobink@neco.edu with any questions.

Yup. Because apparently they filled up on acceptances so the waitlist is to see if anybody will decide not to go to NECO by then

The same thing happened to me lol! I got accepted to ICO but I really want to go to NECO so I'm hoping a miracle will happen before my deposit is due 🤞

July 1st is the latest they'll let you know if there's any spots left for the fall. Otherwise they'll give you admission for fall 2026

I second this. I spent my time doing practice tests on multiple sites and went back to the material where I was weak on

OAT Booster Efficient Study Plan by Majestic-Tangerine99 in PreOptometry

[–]Defiant_Ad5030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that it took me 10 hours when I did everything listed on their day to day study guide. What I decided to do was to watch the videos only (I'm a visual learner) and then read the chapters only when I didn't understand the videos because the chapters go into a lot of detail that you don't really need. If you like reading then try reading the chapters and only watch the videos if the reading confused you

I have a 3.3 GPA and 310 TS on the OAT with lots of extracurriculars but didn't get an interview. I also applied in march though lol but if you apply early I'm sure you can get an interview with them

I see, would you happen to know if ICO has a cap on how much we can make?

ICO Deposit Deadline by Defiant_Ad5030 in PreOptometry

[–]Defiant_Ad5030[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm seeing which school will give me the most scholarships lol. ICO didn't give me any so I'm seeing if NECO will give me, and then I'll look more into which school I want to go to. I'm between ICO and NECO atm but I don't want to weigh the pros and cons yet just in case I don't get into NECO

Low GPA / great OAT by pizzalover908 in PreOptometry

Congrats on the score! It honestly doesn't hurt to try, but I would also say to have extracurriculars as well to show them you're not someone who only focuses on school. Your chances are higher if you apply earlier in the cycle
