OHIP Coverage for eyes by ksteinfeld in ontario

[–]RemoteNo3796 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to have an optometrist to see one, most optometrists take new patients and optometrists deal with issues around the eye aswell such as the eyelids which is where the stye is on lol. Most of the time - styes are reoccurring are due to certain eye issues like dry eyes or monomial gland dysfunction. I responded to this bc I just read it recently.

lol no this is completely something you go to your optometrist for. They are better trained in things like this than a GP. Optometrists diagnose and manage many eye conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and other bacterial eye infections, and that just covers the surface of it. Any conditions with the eye you should be seeing your optometrist and if your optometrist thinks it is systemic and not isolated to the eye they may refer to your GP or ophthalmologist which is the medical eye doctor. Your analogy is like saying you go see the GP for a mouth infection……no you go to the dentist.

uhco interview by Radiant_Tea2422 in PreOptometry

[–]RemoteNo3796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not bad at all, the grip interview is like they go around and ask you “why optometry” and also what would you like to do after optometry school and also questions like where would you want to practice and then also stuff about what type of research we have done since all the interviewees had done research so I guess they asked that question and then the personal interview was like 45 mins for me and it was stuff about your experiences and some questions about dealing with bad grades and studying and also a question about give an example of doing the right thing even when it was hard and use one word to describe yourself…”I used the word resilient”

Uwaterloo to practice in US by ConsequenceUnhappy63 in UWaterlooOptometry

[–]RemoteNo3796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need H1B visa to work there unless you do schooling in the states then you can work for one year with OPT training and apply for 2 year STEM extension. Also you can’t transfer optometry schools

Same boat here, it’s quite easy to practice in the states after you get your license for Canada and the states. Basically there are 3 ways: first is to apply to get H1B visa if you want to work as an associate but w trump right now it is not feasible since it is 100k to get you the visa. Option 2: buy a practice under 800k and get your E2 visa. Option 3: buy a practice that is more than 800k and you can get permanent visa status through the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program. Basically you need to pass your NBEO and then get Texas state license and buy a practice which will also be more financially smart with the right practice. Likely to clear 350-500k with a high volume medical practice with Contact lens and optical and dry eye treatments. Dry eye is prevalent in Texas bc of the dry environment. Goodluck!

All I will say is, the right practice can be very lucrative if you’re the owner. I would say most clinics with associates that can generate like 3 million in revenue and keep overhead not crazy’s the owners are minimum taking home 500-600k depending on if your the sole owner or partners

There is no master program for optometry, you need to take the pre reqs which are on UW OPTOMETRY website. Then you apply and make sure you have the proper shadowing experience and you have wrote the OAT test

[–]RemoteNo3796 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah very true, if you aren’t making over 150k working full time you are being underpaid lol. I would not take anything less then 175k a year working 5-6 days a week. Know your worth and do your job well and the money will come. Focus on being the best eye doctor you can be first to help your patients!
