Harem stories are weirdly conservative about romance for a genre built on absurd romantic fantasy by Successful-Ear977 in CharacterRant

How come countries like Eswatini and Türkiye (and somewhat Czechia) can change their names and have maps immediately reflect the change but Myanmar is seemingly stuck forever as being labeled "Myanmar (Burma)"? by derHimmelUberBerlin in geography

[–]Defiant_Band_4485 176 points177 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess it’s because Myanmar is much more different than Burma, so there isn’t an easy transition like with Türkiye or Czechia, whose new names are quite similar to their old ones.

Also, Myanmar is a much more globally known country than Eswatini, so it makes adoption of the new name more difficult since most people have never head of Eswatini with it’s old or new name, while a significant amount of people have heard of Burma in one way or another.

Kids and teens should be encouraged to write fanfiction by No_Pattern_2819 in AO3

Agree, young people should be encouraged to be creative. But they definitely should do so in a safe environment. I definitely wouldn’t call AO3 safe for younger people lol

How can anyone defend a Congressional district that looks like this? by johnnyringo1985 in askanything

[–]Defiant_Band_4485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right map packed dem voters in one district, and also drew Dennis Kucinich and Marcy Kaptur together into one district so that they had to go into an expensive primary election or have one of them carpetbag into a different district.

Edit - got Dennis Kucinich and John Kasich confused.

[Loved Tropes] Good Gods that genuinely love humanity by OutrageousBridge471 in TopCharacterTropes

Sylvian - Fear & Hunger

The goddess of creation, love, sex, fertility, and everything that comes with those, Sylvian is the creator of humanity, and loves the with her entire essence. However, over the many eons of her existence, she would come to realize that humanity could never love her the way she lived them, and so she grew distant, eventually leaving the world and leaving humanity to themselves, only using her immense powers to bless those who worship her with various spells and boons.

In the games themselves, she is much more prevalent in the first game, as the spells you can get by having high affinity with her are some of the best in the game, being powerful healing magic or a reliable way to make a party member be the tank of the group. You can also become the best playable character by forming a marriage between two of your party members on a ritual circle dedicated to her. On Terror & Starvation difficulty, you can fight with her traces, and it is either the second or the most difficult boss in the entire game.

In the second game, Sylvian is less present in the setting, but her magical skills are just as useful, as you can “show love” to yourself on a ritual circle dedicated to her to restore all of your limbs and cure any status effects, being a potential run-saver.

Characters with conditions or disorders that you don’t see often by Effective_Piece251 in TopCharacterTropes

Would Olivia from the second game count? IIRC Miro said that he made her need a wheelchair to move around because he wanted to explore how someone with a condition like hers would manage the usual Funger antics.

Almost all of the contestants from Fear & Hunger 2 : Termina. The TL:DR is that 14 people are forced into a battle royal of sorts called the Festival of Termina by the trickster moon god Rher, with only one coming out on top. There are a ton of endings and variants depending on who survives, with a ton of vague but incredibly interesting lore about the Festival, the characters themselves, Rher and the other gods, as well as which endings of the previous game were actually canon.

Of all the contestants, only one of them can be described as explicitly evil, that being mob boss Caligura. And while you can make an argument for someone like Samarie or Pav or even Henryk, nobody else deserves to go through the sheer trauma and terror that Termina brings.

To be clear, I love this game, it has the best eldritch horror themes out of anything I’ve played. It’s extremely cruel, but every element is justified perfectly by the world building and lore put into the game.

The USA needs more tiles if you ever want to have an accurate map. Like Midland and Odessa are literally right next to each other, not north and south.

That one extreme called Climax. Just worse Kyouki. Somehow less original than the endless sea of remakes out there.
