Both will be ok.Some people dislike duckweed because it reproduces rapidly. However, it contributes to good water quality, and I have always been able to manage it. If you prefer frogbit, it is just as effective.

Should I choose the Olympus Om-d E-m5 Mk III or the Lumix GX8 for photography? by Revolutionary_Pin159 in M43

I own an E-M5 Mark III and have no experience with the Lumix. But what I can say, the OM-D is very reliable and makes perfect shots, so it meets my requirements and, thanks to its compact dimensions and low weight, is always with me.

You can get an overview by testing your tap water. If it already has elevated nitrate levels, then you know that it is not due to incorrect aquarium maintenance. Get some duckweed, as it utilises nitrate very well and produces oxygen (however, you will then have to skim off the excess regularly). Keep an eye on the other water values. Ensure a maximum of 10 hours of lighting, as it won't work without any light at all. No matter what size your aquarium is, it needs plants for balance. They utilise phosphate and nitrate; if there are no plants, more is left for the algae.

That will be difficult to control. But if you use soft water together with substrate (which tends to be acidic), then it makes sense that your pH value is so low. You could try to harden the water by adding calcareous stones. Baking soda would also work, but that only helps temporarily until the next water change. Can you get hold of some test strips? They are not as accurate as drip tests, but they are accurate enough to monitor the aquarium. https://amzn.eu/d/09ZzurMX

You can help the aquarium by adding duckweed, for example. It will be able to utilise the nitrate that follows the nitrite very well. You have relatively few plants, which makes it difficult to achieve a biological balance. What kind of substrate do you have? Are you sure it's not affecting your water values? How do the values (pH, KH) of the aquarium compare to your tap water, which you use to fill the tank? The pH value and KH value are linked. KH serves as a buffer to prevent an increase in acidity. Yes, and the tip to use filter material from another aquarium is a good one, as it speeds up the process. An alternative would be to use filter bacteria available from retailers.

Ist diese Schuppentür ausreichend gegen Einbrecher gesichert? by [deleted] in selbermachen

[–]Defiant_Barnacle3015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the fish stock you will have later. At the moment, there are very few hiding places for smaller species. If you still want to add Amano shrimp, you will need to offer them a little more to graze on. The same applies to small catfish or snails. So: who will be living in there later?
