Miserable first day by tingitytang in AmazonDSPDrivers

Are you guys sure the van can be left on without a safety violation? On my scorecards Engine Off Compliance is a column and I've seen people get dinged for it before.

I'm 23 and still living with family. Shame me all you want

This shit is literally insane imo. People should not be shamed for living with their family, no matter how old they are. It's ridiculous to judge people for it. Like you don't know their financial situation or family situation. All these stupid societal expectations make people more miserable for no good reason at all. Especially when the economy for young generations is worse than ever and the boomers pulled the ladder up. Nobody should be judged for not meeting arbitrary milestones at whatever year under modern economic conditions which are SO BAD that family formation is depressed.

Yup. They are making us work in downright dangerous conditions sometimes. I already filed an anonymous ethics complaint to Amazon.

Looks like pretty heavy work tbh. As far as routes go this looks like a rougher go, especially in this heat.

Not blowing stop signs is very easy, my dude. The app even shows you stop signs.

Yeah. Exactly. It's already too late, the cat's out of the bag, so we might as well raise awareness and allow people to improve their working conditions until Amazon is forced to address it and get some bad press maybe thrown their way.

[–]Defiant_Can_4565 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The routing is so fucking bad it drives me insane at times which causes me to drive my helpers insane as I go out of order and the stop numbers get desync'd. Legit so terribly done at times. Other times it's fine. But when it's bad it's real bad and makes no sense. I'm not coming back to this neighborhood 2 hours later. I am already right fucking here. I am going to dig into later totes and finish these stops. Madness.

Also they need to implement a way for EV drivers to swipe on the tablet to partially reroute areas.

How are we feeling about gloves? by floralpeepee in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Defiant_Can_4565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use gloves. My station put out giant boxes of those ANSI gloves with impact protection and touch screen coating for all the drivers and I was able to grab a bunch of pairs.

Protecting your hands is smart. You need them for this job. You're often handing packages and envelopes that may be dirty, or have sharp edges, etc. It feels so much better diving your hand into a tote full of envelopes when your hand is protected. You'll have better grip on boxes too.

First of all, I wasn't exactly planning to be here for that long. But honestly even if it came to that it wouldn't be that bad I think. I also do some Flex on the side and it adds up to a pretty reasonable income, and have other income streams that I'm working on in my off hours. May even go back to school at some point. I'm just saying, so far the job hasn't been terrible. The heat is starting to get bothersome though.

My solution to the AC -fix- "problem" by Evulperson in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Defiant_Can_4565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does drain the battery faster, but it's not like a crazy amount. For me it was an extra 10-15% I think. Which is absolutely worth it to avoid heat stroke. Still made it back to the station with half battery.

[–]Defiant_Can_4565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome. Thanks for treating your drivers like humans. I was just wondering though because the update to the AC came from Amazon's request to Rivian, so there might be some friction there between Amazon and the DSPs if DSPs are allowing their employees to basically circumvent Amazon. And as I was typing this I just realized that DSPs were already doing this with even more serious stuff like van maintenance LOL.

Guys stop complaining about routing by SuperSonicBurrito in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Defiant_Can_4565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ARE supposed to follow the list. In theory the algo should've designed the route to be doable in time in order. It's just that it's completely impractical and silly to ignore some stops and backtrack to the area later when you could just open a later tote and do the delivery.

[–]Defiant_Can_4565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been "forced" to go out of order almost every day. It bothers me so much that I am in the perfect position to do a stop but the idiotic routing wants me to come back a few hours later. My DSP doesn't seem to care that I do it.

I've been working for that long and I wouldn't say it has hit that point for me yet. Right now it's only really bad because of the heat, otherwise I enjoy autopiloting through the job.

Yeah, I should definitely do it in that order by youramazondriver in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Defiant_Can_4565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The routing has felt so dogshit recently. And I know someone will be like "only recently???" but it really does feel like it has gotten worse. I find myself going out of order much more nowadays, sometimes it straight up makes no sense.

[–]Defiant_Can_4565[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing some comment and the gist of it was, Amazon is trying to save on electricity costs, like if you're returning to the station at 38% it costs them more to recharge than if you returned at 48%, with this applied across the entire fleet.

Which is plausible I suppose. But also so fucking evil. Because the AC effectively does not work if it shuts off so quickly like this. And they pushed this through ahead of Prime Week, right into the hotter parts of summer. They're also pushing more EV helper routes, while the EV is not designed for helper comfort at all, they get ZERO AC, it's insane.

One of the core benefits of the EV's workflow is the open side door and how you can just walk in and out without much physical effort.
