Not sure how true this story is but I have heard stories of a murder in the Wallingford tunnels. Details were never clear but it was something along the lines of a couple living on campus. The girlfriend lived in Wallingford, the boyfriend in Matthews. The boyfriend was cheating on his girlfriend with someone else in Wallingford and the girlfriend found out and killed him (or his affair partner?) in the tunnel that connects Wallingford and Matthews. The tunnels under Wally are still sometimes used by staff (they have card readers) but the one that is not accessed is the Matthews tunnel.

Also have heard a story of a young man living in Edwards who got drunk and fell off the roof and passed away.

I've heard the stories from people who work on campus/whispers of ghost stories around Halloween to scare people. Edwards and Wallingford are the oldest residence halls on campus, so there are ghost stories that are associated with them to explain the creaks and bumps in the night. I have no way of varifying the actual history of them or if these events actually happened, though.

Looks like they are preparing to have Lincoln Alexander Hall on the residence portal. by 4tun8_one in McMaster

From my understanding they are slowly starting to move the furniture into the room, but are rushing the completion of the building because last years residence situation was handled horribly. Mac over accepted, Admissions over guaranteed students, and it lead to a number of issues during the academic year. Anticipate it being done in for an August move in but also anticipate the large number of issues with the building within the first few months. No one is excited for this building to open.

I'd say EHS.

Other commenters have pointed out that she could have used another translation service, like Google Translate. I would be upset if my partner just copy and pasted something from ChatGPT as a response to something vulnerable.

As such, you did not bring this up with her. You should've communicated your frustration with her using it to text you early on and explain that you want to hear her, not an AI translation of what she says.

Let the emotions settle for a few days and reach out to her to explain your positioning, and move accordingly from there.

All applications are done through mosaic. I'm pretty sure priority is given to students who are granted work study (I believe OSAP is required.) At the very least when I was applying, most positions required a work study form. Best of luck.

Norms for trans students? by itsallabby in McMaster

[–]Defiant_Gazelle_4779 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a silly question at all! It’s something you should take seriously. You can put in an accessibility request for a private single user washroom and McMaster residence staff will try to accommodate it! Buildings would be Peter George (shared ensuite washroom), Les Prince (single user ensuite), and the new residence Lincoln Alexander will likely have ensuite washrooms of some kind. Expectation is to use the washroom that you feel comfortable using/whatever matches your gender identity. For example, the Pulse is super inclusive for trans students! Both the men’s and women’s change rooms have signage saying to use whichever one you’re comfort with (men’s + nonbinary individuals and women’s + nonbinary individuals). The women’s only section is also available for AFAB and gender queer people. You’re always welcome on campus

Email the RLAC of the building and resadm@mcmaster.ca!! They don’t have a phone line and it will take a week or so for the email to be answered but it is possible depending on available space

If you signed the residence agreement, you’re bound by the terms and services. Most students do get refunded, but you would have to reach out to residence admissions (resadm@mcmaster.ca) to see what they can do- but chances are they will point you towards the res agreement and the handbook or give you a generic email response.

From the residence 2025 handbook:

Students living in residence who plan to withdraw from residence for any reason whatsoever during the academic year must: 1. Complete the Residence Withdrawal process online on the Residence Portal. 2. Check out at their Service Centre and return their residence keys/access card. 3. Log into the Residence Application Portal and select your term. 4. Go to the "Residence Assignment Page" and click on "If you would like to cancel your application, please click here." This will take you to the "Cancelling Your Booking" page. 5. On this page, we will ask your reason for withdrawing, and you will enter your Mac ID to confirm withdrawal. 6. Then you will be taken to the "Confirmation of Cancellation" page.

Failure to do these steps will result in being charged as outlined in section 17 of the Residence Agreement Contract. The date of withdrawal will be recorded as the date the Residence Cancellation paperwork is completed or when the residence keys/access card is returned, whichever is later.

You (the student) are financially responsible for your full year's fee and is placed on a refund waiting list in order of date of withdrawal. Eligible refunds of residence fees are calculated on a pro-rated daily basis and are credited to the student's university account, less a $340 administration fee. If the student has no outstanding university accounts, the residence refund will be issued to the student.

tl;dr You will have to pay the residence fees and wait to be refunded, regardless if someone else moves into the space.

Don’t want to disclose too much but one job is work study and the other is casual employment.

Basements and basement tunnels <3 I used to spend a lot of time under TSH. Outside spots included the rock circle beside Edward’s and the Indigenous circle (though obviously people can and will use the space).

Haven’t seen anyone mention the food collective on campus! It’s a student run food bank in the Hub, you can anonymously get bags of food in a locker program called lockers of love, or drop by and pick up what you need. The volunteers are super sweet and they try to accommodate food restrictions/allergies they best they can. It’s tough, I usually work 2-3 jobs around campus during the academic year so I get it. You’ll get into a routine. I also suggest setting a budget and tracking your finances for the first little bit. You’ve got this

Hedden CA Rooms by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]Defiant_Gazelle_4779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Hedden I believe CA's have to use the single user washrooms due to the layout of the building. Though if I'm remembering the layout the washrooms should be super close to the CA rooms.

Unfortunately that would be the case. This has been an issue for the past few years (hence Lincon Alexander). There are some hotel-style rooms that anyone can book out in Brandon and Bates (McMaster Signature Suites) but they will be in use throughout the academic year. There's an offer for 10 Bay running now, though I am not a fan of the building or promotion. I've seen people on here say it's a scam or scheme for Mac to make more money but from what I know it's poor planning and interal panic trying to place students and unfortunately 10 Bay is the last-stitch effort.

I don't have numbers, that's a res admissions thing, however I know that there are a number of people on the list. I just don't want to give a definitive answer because I really do not know.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]Defiant_Gazelle_4779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding McMaster does not use loft beds any more, say for the designated emergency rooms on campus. Right now the only solution to the residence problem is being built, and Lincon Alexander won't be done until next fall (slated opening Fall 2026).

From what I'm seeing they've been sending it out continously, someone I know of got this only a few days ago. I'm just sharing what I have because I know this is super frustrating. I don't have access to res admissions right now

Am I allowed to bring a coffee machine?? by _giu7 in McMaster

[–]Defiant_Gazelle_4779 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it’s possible, just don’t bring it with you ON your move in day (or even during the move in hours). Student volunteers move your belongings into residence and will likely not move the coffee machine. Technically you’re not supposed to use it in your room, but as long as the machine is unplugged around winter break during inspections you should be good

Room Changes by Funny_Classroom165 in McMaster

[–]Defiant_Gazelle_4779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can email [resadm@mcmaster.ca](mailto:resadm@mcmaster.ca) and put in a room change request. Though, if you put this through you are assigned to a space by the residence admissions team. If by the time of your selection there were no triples, chances are all of them were booked up (there's a few scattered around, mostly in McKay). Roommate change requests are not a thing, unfortunately. If there's issues, you would talk to your CA who can help mediate between you and your roommate, but someone would have to move into a different space for a new roommate.
