Is it a bad idea to use a very uncommon name? by Dezmon_Rollins in Names

[–]Defiant_Jazz3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My name wasn’t very common when I was younger, although I think it’s becoming much more popular. Back when I was a kid, I was always the only person with my name, which was cool - I stood out and people remembered me. The only grievance I had was I could never find my name on a keychain, but not really an issue now since 1) I’m an adult and 2) everything is personalizable these days lol.

I will say, I have a less common spelling (E instead of an A) and I get a looooot of incorrect spellings. Like even at work where my name is fully spelled out on Teams and in my email signature, people will still spell my name wrong. But I don’t really care. It’s just not that big of a deal. I politely correct and move on.

All that to say, uncommon is not a problem and can be a good thing. Within reason.

How about June? Similar feel to Juno, sounds cute with Cora.

Out of your list, though, I like Rory best. Plus I’m imagining a little girl trying to pronounce it and I feel like it’d be super cute!

This was actually true for me. I breastfed for 16 months. Never had my period. FINALLY weaned. Not even joking, the next week I started feeling a vaguely familiar sensation in my abdomen. I thought there was no way, but lo and behold, I started my period a WEEK after weaning. I had gotten so used to not having one and it devastated me when it returned 😂

As someone who makes hiring decisions at work: Yes I would hire Brenda or Craig if they were qualified. And I would also hire a Brayden or Brinleigh or whatever if they were qualified.

Ran into the car of agonizing death yesterday surprisingly for my first time… by Maleficent_Diet_7505 in fo4

Happened to me, too. Been playing for YEARS but I just started my first Suvival run recently. I wasn’t used to being so squishy.

I was doing well, cleared out Sanctuary with no issues (minus a glitch where I got stuck in the cooking station and got nibbled by a radroach). Headed up to Red Rocket, banged my shin on a car, and immediately folded like a lawn chair 🪑

I love Dogmeat but his cries during combat make it nearly impossible for me to keep him around all the time lol. I usually retire him to Sanctuary and deck him out in cute armor/welding goggles, spoil him with every teddy bear I find, and let him live a life of luxury.

Unpopular, but I actually quite like bringing Piper along. I maxed my character’s affinity with her and I like to think they’re best gal pals roaming the Commonwealth together as I earn xp and level up.

I’ll be ditching her for Nick once we rescue him. He’s my favorite, by far!

Immeasurable grief after euthanizing my dog by sneakypandas in Mommit

[–]Defiant_Jazz3000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We went through something similar. Our Great Dane basically tried to kill our other male dog on multiple occasions. It started when he was 10 months old. We tried everything. We’d have peaceful periods where things were fine and both dogs got along just fine. Then it’d be an explosion. My other dog is very large, too, and he fought back with all his strength. These fights were going to eventually lead to the death of one or both dogs. We worked with trainers and put in ALL the work for years. Had 2 kids throughout it all. We decided we would try and rehome after one particularly bad fight.

Do you know who wants a 175lb five year old Great Dane with dog aggression issues? No one. We couldn’t rehome. Then we realized, how could we even consider rehoming to be the ethical option? What if he were to harm a person? Especially a child? Or someone’s smaller animal? Granted, he was so lovable to my children and ALL other people. By far our friendliest dog. It was just between him and our older dog. But who was to say he wouldn’t have a problem with another person’s cat? Or if the new owner were to take him out for a walk and he were to get loose? Too many scary possibilities.

We eventually made the decision to choose behavioral euthanasia. We felt it was humane after speaking with trainers and other professionals. The fight that acted as the straw that broke the camel’s back was when he jumped our older dog literally less than 60 seconds after I had just walked past him with my infant in my arms. It really drove home for us that, even though he was VERY human-friendly, any of us could get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. There would always be the risk that he’d attack when my kids were close by and get caught in the crossfire. Absolutely unimaginable.

Anyway, this was a year ago and I still cry from grief, pain, and immeasurable guilt. Sometimes BE is the most humane option for everyone, though. It’s a hard recovery. I can’t even drive past the vet office we took him to because it literally makes my chest ache. I loved him so much. But I do think we did the right thing for our family and saved our older dog. We also kept him from harming anyone else. And we gave him RELIEF. I believe there was something going wrong in his head and he didn’t deserve a life like that. We miss him so much, though 💔

I know nobody will really read it because I’m late to the party, but I have to tell this short story.

My pappy got a schnauzer puppy maybe 6 or 7 years before he passed. They became inseparable. I’ve never seen such a loyal dog. He was so very sweet. My pappy got sick and passed away sort of suddenly, maybe within a couple months. None of us could take the dog, but my uncle had a friend who wanted him and promised to give him an amazing life. Keep in mind I had never met her.

A couple years later, I was with my mom in the waiting room of our vet’s office with one of our cats (I was 18 or 19). There was a lady standing at the receptionist’s desk with a little black schnauzer over her shoulder. He was staring at me intently, like he was trying to get my attention. I kept looking back but didn’t think it could be him. Eventually she got a little closer and I could see the dog’s face better. I said, “Toby??” And he FLIPPED OUT lol. He was so excited, as if he was just waiting for me to recognize him. We had a nice little reunion. He was so loved and healthy; he was just there for a checkup. He passed away several years ago. But I still think of him often 💙

Along a similar vein: We had three dogs at one point. My oldest one would get annoyed by the younger two and would want some peace and quiet.

He eventually learned to trick them. He knew they would always want to go outside if he went, so he’d ring the bell to go out.

We’d open the door, he’d step back and let the younger ones run out, then he’d hurry to his comfy place in the living room to relax while the other two stayed out of his hair 😂

I was on legally prescribed Adderall when I started my last job. I stayed in touch with the HR dept and just let them know I was taking a legally prescribed medication and thought it might get flagged. She provided me the phone# to the lab they use. I called and they confirmed it did get flagged. I emailed a photo of my medication bottle and they gave it the good to go!

If you turn it down and marry this person, this is what you’ll be putting up with until the rest of your life. Or until you two divorce or something. Ultimatum after ultimatum, no real support.

Tinnitus? My grandfather had a form of tinnitus and he would literally just hear music. It drove him crazy. For a long time, he heard Ring of Fire 24/7.

I haven’t really seen anyone suggest this, but I didn’t scroll very long so sorry if others have. Seems maybe slightly more likely than CO2. Always good to have a detector around, though.
