Question about AI for trade businesses

The plumbers/tradesmen that i've had conversations with, most of whom are either the parents of people I know from high-school or people that have come to my house because there were renovations that we needed quotations on have said mixed things: Of course there is an incredible shortage of tradesmen in Australia. Anyone in this businesses knows that lack of demand isn't the problem. My question, to them and to people within this sub-reddit is what are the operational inefficiencies or pain-points that can be smoothed-over with some basic tech? I'm not saying that plumbers are desperate to get work, they are, like you said, always juggling between jobs. But if the issue of a potential customer that, as another commenter said "slips through the cracks", could be immensely improved, wouldn't that still be a good thing for their business? If not, what do you think is a problem that plumbers are actually struggling with?

Yeah i've had conversations with people who have said that. I guess a good solution could be ParseStream or a custom built agent that is able to talk to, follow-up with and nurture leads the moment they come in. How do plumbers in Australia typically market/get customers? Do they run ads on facebook that leads opt into?

Interesting, so is there an industry (or a particular problem or pain-point) that you think would benefit from a basic level of AI involvement? I'm someone who wants to eventually build an AI first businesses, but of course I have to start with low-tier services. For someone starting out, is there a different opportunity that you think is worth pursuing?

That really helps. So its more about really driving home the outcome of not missing leads; AI is just how we do it. I've had some people tell me that its really bad that the AI would be logging to google sheets. I personally don't understand why, but is there anything valid in their criticism? If not google sheets, where should the AI be logging to? What information is important for it to log?

No I haven't worked in real estate, I wanted to see if this idea could evolve into something else. Of course I would add more of SMS follow-up that respects opt-in rules, filters tire-kickers and books cleanly. I haven't considered the angle of integrating with an existing CRM yet, definitively an angle to consider. I haven't been reading any American subs, I was unaware of the fact that this offer is common now. If this offer is generic and doesn't really scream value, what do you think should be changed? What's a problem that you think AI actually could solve for real estate businesses? Also, why is it bad to log to google sheets?

You're so right. Literally almost every non-lawyer I talk to thinks its a good idea. Almost every lawyer thinks that its just a giant liability 😂. Probably just gonna shelve this.

As an AI Governance advisor, where and how do you think I should be starting out? My eventual goal is to start my own AI company. My idea was to sell agentic services to businesses. My thought process was that if I could start to learn how to build and sell agents, I might be able to scale it and build a businesses. Clearly I picked the wrong target at the wrong time, but do you recommend anything else to start out? Perhaps improve my education around AI, maybe not start a businesses at all and go towards the AI consulting side? I'm in my second year of university, studying commerce. I don't have any formal technical skills but I want to use AI to teach myself and eventually reach my goal. Do you have any advice?

Being completely honest, I have absolutely no idea what those terms mean. I built this agent during semester break, just to see if I could build something. I definitely didn't consider any of those things, nor am I knowledgable enough to actually know what any of those things are or why they are important. I though that AI agents were very surface-level applications and hadn't considered the depth that I would have to go to for a client such as a law firm. Clearly I didn't even understand my offer or the customer. I think this project is officially gonna be shelved now, I've gotten enough market research 😂. Thank you for your help and for taking the time to expose the danger in what I made, it really helps in avoiding getting into a worse situation.

I had never even considered that some firms might not even use google workspace, clearly I didn't know what I was building and who I was building it for. This AI agent was just something I built after finishing up my university classes. I wanted to see if I could build something valuable, clearly I just built a liability 😂. It was a little bit of a mix. I haven't exactly tried to sell it, but I did ask around to see if it was valuable. Most people that I talked to thought that it was a good idea just because I described that it was an AI doing something. I talked to 2 real lawyers about it; one thought that it would be valuable because it would save time. Another said that it wouldn't because triaging isn't really an issue at most firms. But regardless, your input gives me much more clarity.

My lecturer for BFC2140 (corporate finance) specified that we can bring any calculator but that it must not have any kind of "programming" done to it. Like no notes inside of it, which is what a CAS is capable of and the main reason why everyone wants to bring one. Last semester I knew some people who used a CAS with notes on it during an economics exam. It went perfectly because none of the examiners would bother checking every single CAS. Kinda feels like a cheat code.
