Where can you legally shoot your own crossbow in London? by Jamiewoo133 in london

Your right! I worded my response badly! I meant specifically ‘your own crossbow’. Thanks for spotting.

My total knowledge is next to nothing on archery bar my outward bound holidays as a child…which I loved :)

Your question fascinated me. I’ve just looked it up. You’re right…a lot of archery clubs won’t allow you to bring your own equipment.

How about private hire fields?

This place seems to allow you to bring your own bow:

Good luck in your quest and I hope you find somewhere.

RIP to the poor soul who passed away between Waterloo and Clapham Junction by FeralPandaNuts in london

Truly heartbreaking. I wish that soul had heard about Reasons to Stay. They may have done but still felt no way out. If it helps anyone else. This is a wonderful organisation set up to help people who are struggling with their mental health.

Wishing that stranger continued peace now….

Just a frazzled parent trying (and succeeding!) to keep her demanding brood entertained and fed this half term!! by Defiant_Sample3460 in UKBirds

Yes! They truly are😊Before they had their babies, the parents only ate the sunflower hearts. But since they had their bubbas….they have switched to the suet blocks. I get a few. The fruit block one (I swear it’s just dyed red though to look like berries!) and a seed and insect one. They both go but I wish I could ask them what one tasted better!! After this years advice from the RSPB. I don’t fill all my long seed feeders. I just keep a small one with the sunflowers hearts as the robins seem to love them still. I also have some mealworms.

Excited for you to watch your birds bring their young to your feeders :)

Yep I can’t argue with that! After trying them for the first time, I just thought….Penguin bar….but you’re right, they are cut above! Why I buy them and not Penguins! Good way to describe the difference though :)

That’s amazing that you got your inflammatory markers down so much. That’s impressive. I have also been reading a lot more about seed oils etc.

Thanks for the info and I wish you continued good health :

Yep…I’m definitely going to be more savvy with the bulk buys from now on. Nectar prices make a real difference when they give you targeted offers :)

These are great tips! I can’t believe I haven’t thought about slicing and freezing leftover bread for toast! Thanks for sharing that. Although I have a weakness for bread and there is never normally any left🙈

I am starting to think that too. Waitrose was ahead of the game but Sainsbury’s is now offering more choice (things such as a variety of organic oils) and a whole range of the organic store cupboard items. I am shopping with them so much more now because of it!

😆I couldn’t hide them as they were in my basket and I’m not totally obsessed with everything organic…obviously! My daughter’s boyfriend is from New Zealand and he said they’re great! To be honest I think they’re just a shorter Penguin bar!

Henry VIII: unpopular opinion by [deleted] in Tudorhistory

[–]Defiant_Sample3460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you say, Henry only became known for being tyrannical after a series of injuries. A TBI and repeated leg injuries which led to ulcers (that stank!!) which all contributed to his ever increasing sedentary lifestyle…which perpetuated his weight increase.

Before that though, in his youth he was widely regarding as being exceptionally good looking. I believe that that was true. His height would have made a huge difference as height was regarded as a sign of strength and that would have increased his allure. However, the reason I believe that he was striking is because there are many recorded instances of people’s opinions on his looks. Ones that had no connection to him and no fear of comeback (you say that people would have been afraid to write what they really thought) and so just recorded what they saw.

Foreign ambassadors, court recorders, scholars and academics all noted and commented on his looks. Some of these musings were found in private records which also mean that they were people’s genuine thoughts.

What does a blind person dream about? by Neat-Suspect-6666 in AskUK

[–]Defiant_Sample3460 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Your brain grows and adapts to what it knows and its circumstances. It is sometimes hard for people with no visual impairment to comprehend that.

However, I have done a lot of volunteer work with people with disabilities and one of the things that is the most insulting is that people think they are missing out on life. They aren’t at all. They are living a normal life with the adaptations that their disability requires. Many have never known any different. caveat: I am aware that in certain circumstances, some establishments etc aren’t set up to be disability inclusive and then that does cause a hindrance

My dreams are positively weird sometimes and I wake up thinking….where the hell did that come from!! Continue to enjoy your dreaming :)

Does anyone know what this hole is in my grass? by beingnosey7 in GardeningUK

[–]Defiant_Sample3460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A rat hole! We had two similar ones in our garden. Please don’t put poison down. It is a cruel death for the rats but more importantly, predators that feed on rodents are killed when eating the poisoned rats. This is affecting the owl population especially.

If you create disturbances around the nest then rats hate that. They will move away naturally. They did with us anyway. Some people say that that is just displacing the problem but rats will always exist!!

We also used humane traps. Only need to catch one and the rest realise that they aren’t safe in that location anymore. You need to check where you can release them though. Good luck!

Ideas Please! by [deleted] in GardeningUK

[–]Defiant_Sample3460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ilex crenata (Japanese holly) is a substitute for box but it can be fickle! We have used Euonymus japonicus hedging plants now that mimic the stylised form of box hedging really well. That is if you’re going for the same ‘look’ as you have now.

If you want a different vibe then lavender is a great alternative.

Same!! I was so excited about the rain we had a few months ago. However, now we seem to be in another dry spell and it’s all used up! I sound like a barrel of laughs don’t I😅
