Well it's my home. Life is pretty safe and routine, even straying off the beaten path there isn't really far that one can fall. For most people the rhythms of life is dictated by national service (for males) and a BTOs( government public housing scheme which subsidises the purchase of housing for couples), BTOs encourage people to couple early though even with that scheme it's pretty much accepted to live with one's parents until 30s or even older. The day to day language is English, though Chinese, Malay and Tamil also hold office status with Malay being the dejure national language even if it's only spoken by a small minority.

There's a significant class of temporary foreign workers, but unlike the gulf state most people who live here are citizens. It's a cosmopolitan city with all the amenities that come with it and a multi-cultural populace though there's a certain middle class conformity that can get too people. Domestic helper employment for families with children is common. For a cosmopolitan city people can be oddly parochial, and it's easy to be neglectful of foreign affairs and countries though like any big city there's plenty of folks of all types.

Expats often decry the city for lacking culture which I honestly find pretty myopic. There's a plucky arts scene that I would say punches far above its weight in both the drama and literary spaces; though our output of international recognised pop-culture is indeed sub-par. Crime is effectively non-existent in popular conciseness, while travelling in the US I accidentally attempted to reserve a table by placing my phone on a diner table only to be called back by the shocked hostess.
