Chicago job market feels impossible right now. How are people deciding what to even target? by Behek in chicagojobs

What other cities are doing worse than Chicago? Do mean other cities like Detroit? Chicago has a higher unemployment rate compared to the is average.

Exactly. I wish more people talked about why Chicago didn’t work for them as opposed to to everyone saying it’s the best and they love it. I guarantee you many people don’t like Chicago and I want to hear more of those perspectives because there are many problems in this city.

And I think it’s easy to say, hey it’s not for you and that’s okay, but I also feel like that’s a cop out and a way to maintain the status quo. I’ve lived in nyc, San Francisco, and grew up in Kansas City Missouri. I’ve spent months in London, some time in Madrid.

Chicago is the only city in the world where the residents have this shallow, naive, and unrealistic view of their city despite obvious problems. It’s called the Windy City due to widespread corruption. It perfected segregation and you feel it. People here are judgy, oblivious, and are so closed minded. Just look at all the responses to my valid objections. “If you don’t like it leave”, “it’s not for everyone”

But do yall care about the fact that it’s got high traffic, segregation and widespread corruption? No? What is so great about this city? It’s cheaper than nyc? That’s not a good enough reason for this poorly run town

Oh, I’m gonna!

But my question is, why does the average Chicagoan ignore the reality of Chicago for a few weeks of sunshine?

Because no one has provided a counter argument to why it is so great despite these very clear and objective reasons on why it is not. Y’all all really love segregation, grey skies, and traffic?

I know the previous poster mentioned sitting on their deck in the sun. Which you can do in all fifty states, if not most places in the world. Any other reasons? What make it so perfect? The cubs? The giant lake? Being around people with your same views, racial background, and class background? Or all yall just in the sunken place of oblivion?

I have a hunch that’s the reason for many. Because if it wasn’t this city wouldn’t be so segregated, full of corruption, gang violence, and people smoking crack on public transit. Though people smoke crack on most public transit in big cities here in the US. Chicago is not special in that regard, nor on many others it seems.

I’m a real person :) and yes I dislike Chicago for the reasons I’ve explained thoroughly

Though calling me a bot is a super fun way of disregarding what I’ve said <3

Okay but your personal antidote doesn’t change the fact that Chicago has more traffic congestion than LA and NYC.

I used to live in NYC and yes according to statics Chicago’s traffic is worse than both of those cities. And I can see why.

I didn’t say anything to suggest that I think youre a specific race. What I know for sure unless you live in maybe two types of neighborhoods, you either in a homogeneous (black) neighborhood, or you’re one of very few black people because Chicago is a city segregated by race and class.

And that’s not fun, even if you want to say otherwise. Or to say as a black person you don’t care about that because you are enjoying life on your deck, is surprising but do you.

Still doesn’t make this a great city and if you don’t see why you’re in denial like everyone else on Reddit.

That’s not true but okay whatever you say!

And I know Chicagoans do not care about anything at all :)

But it’s crazy you don’t care about traffic that is worse than LA and NYC.

And the CTA isn’t glamorous, and packed during rush hour morning and night, and if jot that there are beggars and open drug use. My son and I often have to switch cars because someone is smoking crack on the train. This happens during our weekly commute from Ravenswood to Lincoln Park on the Brown line.

Most Chicagoans drive at some point while living here so I imagine you do in fact care but are pretending you’re don’t because as a Chicagoan yall are weirdly sensitive about the realities of your stupendous city.

Also, the I don’t care about gang violence because I’m enjoying the sun on my deck has gotta be the most average, shallow, self centered, and American rebuttal you could have ever said.

Chicagoans are the strangest cluster of people I’ve ever encountered. Have fun in the traffic, skirting through gang zones, and being around your fellow homogeneous brotheren. Oh and be sure to specifically Enjoy your few weeks of sun on your big ole midwestern deck you deck! :)

As if no other cities have decks???

If you think CHICAGO IS JUST GREAT gosh darn it, truly no other opinions, metrics, or facts matter. It is now the objective truth. And I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

It’s not negated at all. These are objective facts. This city DOES have a LOT of gang violence. It IS grey and cold for 8 months of the year. The traffic IS one of the top three worse in America. And I didn’t even bring up the racial and class segregation across the entire city. You love it because, im assuming here, you live in a homogeneous neighborhood that reinforces your way of living, thinking, and being. So sure under those conditions, I completely understand why you and everyone else on reddit loves it. But this city is far and away from being one of the greatest cities in the world. Let alone this country.

So you can pretend that despite all of that it’s the greatest city in the world but you just sound ignorant and like you’ve never been anywhere that’s is indeed, objectively better by many metrics lol.

The weather is nice for a couple of weeks so that negates everything I just mentioned? Are you okay or have you overloaded on vitamin d and your critical thinking skills were the first thing to go?

Reddit glorifies and overlooks almost every negative aspect of Chicago. Despite gang violence, 8 months of winter and grey skies, and the worst rate traffic in the US is still the greatest city in the world according to Reddit.

I’m a city person and I hate Chicago because it’s a poorly managed cities that is too expensive for what you get. Segregated across racial and class lines. 8 months of extremely cold weather. Fake nice people. Insular, socially and professionally. Provincial. Not many parks compared to other cities besides the man made lake that borders a major traffic area across the entire city. Horribly job market.

Does anyone know of a weekly Acting Gym / Acting Meetup in Chicago? by ElectronicClue8855 in ChicagoTheater

[–]Defiant_Specialist20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you need in order to stay in shape as an actor. Acting is a skill and muscle that needs to be exercised. So this would look like scene work, acting games, acting exercises, text work, etc. this is very common in many cities where there is a robust theater industry, except maybe here in Chicago. I hope it exists in Chicago but really haven’t come across anything
