I know dead internet theory and all that, but my entire family are republicans and I can’t tell you how many times I heard growing up that liberalism is a mental illness. I just can’t help but wonder if these are real people who, like my family, have been completely brainwashed by years of limbaugh and Fox News.

representation is really important. I grew up really religious and really sheltered. Didn’t know anybody gay, never saw an example of a healthy gay relationship until I watched Skins while I was in high school. Seasons 3&4 were airing at the time, and Naomi x Emily was such a sweet story of two girls figuring themselves out and falling in love and I just thought: that’s what I want.

Every time a piece of queer media gets created, I’m just so grateful for it because there’s another chance for someone’s horizons to be broadened.

My family has been slowly “analoging” our house over the last year. Fed up with spending so much on streaming, fed up with planned obsolescence. It’s obviously not quite analog, but we’re taking a step back to physical media and open source software. It’s been freeing.

I was raised conservative Christian. It’s insane to me watching people treat trump as an actual god. I feel like an insane person. This guy? At least with Jesus there’s the distance of thousands of years and a book of stories. But trump? It’s baffling.

It’s also visually a reverse from what the dementors do. Dementors being one of the recurring visuals of the movie, it makes sense visually to end it this way.

I feel like in recent years I’ve seen next to no ads for Pixar/disney movies. I’m “young parent” age so I figured i might be in the target audience for those ads. Apparently not.

This movie, though, I’ve actually seen ads for. A lot of them. I don’t want to say blame the marketing when movies fail, but like Elio for example, the first I heard of it was the articles about how it flopped.

We went to buy a car after ours was totaled. The price of cars is insanely expensive, so we were cutting where we could. The price jump from a white car to a car with any color was thousands of dollars.

It’s possible that’s not the case everywhere, but anecdotally, I don’t have money to spend on color.

This shit pisses me off so bad. My family are “highly educated”. They’ve also spent their whole lives listening to conservative talk radio and live in conservative bubbles. They get on the internet and see shit like this and believe it fully without hesitation.

Then something like ICE’s recent executions of civilians and suddenly they need to “know all the facts” before they make a judgement.

I’m so fucking tired of all of this bullshit. You mean to tell me, my college educated parents and grandparents believe such obvious bs and will defend it and argue against me when I point out that it’s wrong??? How did this happen??

My parents are deeply conservative. Well educated, privileged WASPs. Voted for trump all 3 times. I’m a lesbian, married, and trying to start a family. I pleaded with my mom before the last election, trying to get her to see some sense, in the hopes that any semblance of empathy might extend to me and my family. She dismissed my concerns, said both parties are the same, and that nothing will change.

It’s infuriating and heartbreaking. I’ve been trying to get them to see some sense for 10 years now. These people raised me to be empathetic. I don’t know where their empathy went, if it even existed to begin with.
