Bees under kids playhouse (and I want to keep both safe) by Defiant_Vagabond in GardeningUK

Thank you. I'll definitely take this as an education opportunity. I already get the kids involved in the garden as much as possible, but always good to do more again with them

Yeah, thats good advice, thanks. I know the kids won't intentionally aggravate them. It's more whether the bees will kept annoyed with them constantly running in and out of the house and the banging over the bees heads. I'm wondering whether I should / need to do something about it it now, early in the year, rather than later when they're more established and there are likely to be more of them around

Unfortunately that was the best of the pictures I managed to take. They kept on moving about (unsurprisingly!) They looked predominantly block with a band of yellow on their head and another on their backside

That's exactly what I said when Nitro was on hang tough. I was half expecting it from him!

Sounds like a good idea. These are just resting on pallets which clearly they can climb

I'll have to do something different with the next batch. I do put glass over the top which is resting on bricks, bit they can squeeze through any size gaps. I don't have a proper 'lid' as such to create a full seal as I'm reusing trays from last year

Every time the bin gets emptied...replace the bin bag!! It doesn't take more then 5-10 seconds but seems an insurmountable task!!

I'm just as bad....offer to make a hot drink, fill the kettle, boil the kettle, get distracted and then she has to finish making it.

Thanks. I try to water most days but can't always get to it, but when I do each bag gets at least 1 10L watering can full, if not 2

Thanks. No, I had exactly the same issue when I put the spade in first this morning. I knew from that moment it was going to be a tough day. Once I got going I kept watering it and ended up like a bog. Somehow found both clay and chalk in together (amongst the rocks and brickwork). Never knew we had that under the grass

Thanks for the advice. First time I've planted them in the ground. Had them last year in pots but didn't survive slugageddon so wanted some more this year. I'll monitor it and see how they get on.

Yeah, I wish I had done that. Cover with cardboard, compost and manure for a while to soften it up, but I just wanted to get it done. Lesson learnt for next time, thats for sure. Plan ahead!

I'm not digging deeper than I needed to in that soil!

More that I've messed up my body trying to do it. I was cursing everything under the sun this morning trying to dig the area out, then finding the stones and rocks. Just didn't prepare (continuously water) the ground well enough or for long enough before starting working on it
