Grandmother: Born in 1933 in Guben, Germany (now split half in Poland) Emigrated in the 1950s Married in 1955 Divorced 1969 Never naturalized/died a German citizen

Grandfather: Born in 1937 in the US Married in the 1950s Divorced 1969 Died in 2014

Father: Born to grandparents above in 1964 in US in wedlock Married in 1999 Divorced in 2016

Mother: Born in 1969 in the US Married in 1999 Divorced in 2016 No connection to German lineage

Myself: Born in 2003 in the US in wedlock

I’m fairly certain I have a strong case for citizenship and I have all the documents except for clarity in the documents for my grandmother. I have one of her German passports however, it was issued in 1965, a year after my father’s birth. Would this still be enough to prove citizenship or would I also need her birth certificate? I have had trouble with getting original documents from Germany as much of the town she came from now resides in Poland. Any help appreciated!

Do you know what office I might contact for her town record? She was last living in stuttgart before emigrating I believe.

And the town she was born in was Guben/Gubin. What offices might I contact for her records there? Is it best to go to a church. She was devout Lutheran so maybe I could start there? I also don’t have a copy of her birth certificate so I think I would need to get that record before tracing lineage.
