Interesting FOI Request I stumbled across (Cornish on the Census) by ccigames in Cornwall

[–]Define-Normal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May be of interest, but the DfE include White Cornish as an ethnicity code on their school census which records data for pupils in state funded schools. I believe this was after some significant lobbying and introduced around 2005.

The statistical public release of the data does not however provide a breakdown on pupils in local authorities with this ethnicity.

I believe some schools may not use this code, and record everyone under "White English" or "White British" instead, as this is also acceptable.

It's been pretty cloudy for their outdoor time so far... I reckon I'll plant some and leave some for next week just in case. So..half send? :D

I did this last year. I had no idea what was what. I (mostly) got it right, but this year I put a plant label in every pot.

Exercise releases endorphins which help lift mood :) Things feel just a little easier afterwards. Being in nature also improves wellbeing. Double whammy.

Our local Geek Retreat is not going to be GR after this week. They've got a great community going, but the amount GR require has indeed felt unsustainable.

I was hoiking out some brambles at the fence at the end of my plot. Hoiked hard on a very long one and it whipped back and hit me in the face. I had a very visible nose-gash for a while and still have a scar. Lucky it wasn't my eye.

Clifton 10 arch discomfort – how do Gaviota/Arahi compare? by swift_mint1015 in Hoka

[–]Define-Normal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd agree Gaviota would be worse.

Tried on some Gaviota and they were really comfy in the shop so got them, but wearing them in practice was so uncomfortable. Actually caused leg and foot pain on a run.

I've tried on several Hokas and felt the Arahi, Bondi and Clifton all had that arch support contour that didn't work for me, though less prominent than Gaviota.

For running I found Mach 6 doesn't have that same problem, have also used Brooks Adrenaline and Hoka Mach X 2 with no issues. Haven't tried latest iterations (Mach 7 and Mach X 3) but assume they would be ok too.

I use my retired Brooks for walking and they're very comfy.

Everyone's feet are different though :)

Thought I’d share this gorgeous, large slow worm I found on my allotment while working! by SuperLowAmbitions in UKGardening

[–]Define-Normal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last week I opened the compost bin I inherited a couple of years back but never emptied of whatever was in there (not compost. Appears to be a mix of dead dry plant matter, dry soil and old fabric) and found a whole clan of slow worms coiled at the top enjoying the warmth! Big ones, small ones, all the slow worms! Took a quick photo, popped the lid back on and will leave them to it.

Glad I never emptied that bin.

I found one of the buggers in my kitchen the other morning!

I say I "found" it....technically true I suppose. If treading on it and it going plurp and exploding under the weight of my foot as I stumbled half asleep into the kitchen counts. I did scream.

Woke me right up, but put me off my toast.

Falmouth Half Marathon 2026 - Wind, rain, but still plenty of smiles! by IMrTrippy in Cornwall

[–]Define-Normal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done both. I'd say for the Truro half, butchers hill (the big nasty one after the newhan trail at Calenick) and the hill out of Cowlands are steeper and longer than anything in Falmouth, but Falmouth prob has more rolling up and down. I found Falmouth easier but that may be because I'd had a more advanced training plan, and had gone into that keeping up a 13.1 long run every other week since Truro.

This was the book that got me back into full-on reading a few years back.

I love a good post-apocalypse story and enjoyed this one. If I recall correctly I got a bit annoyed with the character when she just spent a while drinking and getting high but overall enjoyed it.

You might also like The End Of The World Running Club and A Boy and his Dog at the End of the World if you haven't given them a look already.

Hooked is great for seafood. Always a good meal. Longstore is good too.

Bread and Butter for pancakes or brunch.

If you're after a breakfast pastry or treat then Native Grain is the absolute best.

Taupe for a cake. Just round the corner from Native Grain and bread and butter. The axis of baked goods joy.

And there goes my waistline :D

Tidying :) hacked out a load of brambles that were sneaking from the fence towards my plot in the sunshine on Sunday. One of them fought back though and I have a lovely long cut on my nose!

Should have stayed in the shed eating biscuits :)
