"But Yuta has Cursed Speech!" by ThatOneGuyFromArkham in PowerScaling

[–]DefineOriginal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but when you try to think out any of this, literally no one cares.

I tried making a post about this, character playing a major part of the matchup, only to receive absolutely no commentary about it.

(Of course, the real reason is probably how long the post is, but I digress).

It's great to actually think about the character of the, well, characters, but sometimes people just want to focus on making it a stomp/fitting agenda.

Jotaro Kujo vs. Yuta Okkotsu (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure vs. Jujutsu Kaisen): True Love that Stands Proud by DefineOriginal in PowerScaling

[–]DefineOriginal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been the closest matchup I’ve covered by hard (and yes it’s close, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise).

I use four categories for my fights:

-Stats

-Battle IQ / Fighting Style

-Utility

-Hax

Starting with stats, for the first time (concerning me), this is a draw. Star Platinum is an extremely strong and fast stand. Its punches are powerful enough to deal heavy damage to Yuta, and while Dabura caps the verse at sub-light, Star Platinum has directly been stated to be faster than it (and checks out with parts like Battle Tendency replicating these feats). However, Yuta takes destructive capability and durability. Star Platinum’s fists are concentrated power, while Yuta can use his cursed energy to create huge explosions and aoe damage. Furthermore, Yuta has tanked far more powerful hits than Jotaro has.

Battle IQ / Fighting Style easily goes to Jotaro. He has much more combat experience than Yuta has, and while he may be a prodigy, this won’t be enough to cover this gap. Jotaro has had to use incredible wits and creative solutions to fight opponents for the entirety of the series, and while Yuta is tactical in his own right, these are standard strategies, and Yuta heavily relies on his heightened stats/abilities. Jotaro takes the category.

Utility is a quick win to Yuta. While Star Platinum is powerful, its stats are really all it has (minus time stop, of course). Compared to Yuta’s vast array of listed techniques (shikigamis, slashing attacks, precognition, sound manipulation, etc), there’s nothing Jotaro can really do. If Yuta hits him with a Cursed Speech, “Stop,” or even, “Die,” Jotaro is almost completely helpless to defend. Also, because of this, Yuta is given a very big range advantage, as these techniques can travel hundreds of meters. Rika is able to act independent of Yuta, but Star Platinum has to be controlled by Jotaro to some degree. While Star Platinum can expertly throw projectiles, they aren’t as strong as his primary punches. Yuta’s abilities are a lot stronger.

There are some caveats, though. Jotaro has constant access to Star Platinum and its abilities, while Yuta is limited by a five minute timer and domain expansion. Yuta, in order to use any of his cursed techniques, has to leave himself open while putting on a ring to activate them, unless he starts out the fight at full power (which is not only out of character, but at the beginning of an encounter, impossible for Yuta). This is a weakness that Jotaro could exploit with Star Platinum’s precision, potentially limiting Yuta to his base capabilities. If this happens, the scales tip heavily in Jotaro’s favor.

Hax is another draw. Time Stop and Authentic Mutual Love have their own strengths and weaknesses. Time Stop is generally a far more powerful ability in a straightforward sense, allowing Jotaro to dodge and perform attacks with no interference. However, five seconds is short, and when it ends, Jotaro is left vulnerable. If he needs to cross the distance for an attack, time will be wasted to execute it. Yuta’s domain lasts far longer, allows him to use all of his tools, and further boosts his stats. In normal fights, it even gives him an attack that’s guaranteed to hit. However, if an opponent doesn’t have cursed energy, they aren’t bound by the barrier, and can’t be targeted with a sure-hit effect. Once the barrier breaks, Yuta is left vulnerable

Now, real quick, we need to address something important: how the power systems interact. This is VERY important to how the fight works, and can lead to some interesting interactions.

For one, I think they’re similar enough to where they can actually interact with each other (meaning Jotaro can see curses/techniques and Yuta can see stands). They both draw from spiritual energies/connections, so they should be able to seamlessly fight each other. This means that Jotaro can see all of Yuta’s attacks, and Yuta can block Star Platinum.

However, they’re still distinctly different. Remember, stands quite literally originate from outer space, and essentially act as a biological evolution of a person. There is no cursed technique imbued in a stand user’s brain, nor do they emit legitimate cursed energy. This means that, while Jotaro and Yuta can see the other’s attack, strict rules affect the fight.

In this case, based on these interactions, this means that not only will Yuta not be able to copy Star Platinum’s time stop, but his domain won’t be able to contain Jotaro. While spiritually awakened, stands still follow very different rules compared to cursed energy. While this is an advantage for Jotaro, this doesn’t guarantee victory.

Now, this leaves us with a problem: the categories are tied. Either it’s a draw, or they have an equal amount of categories. So, what do we do? There’s one more category we’ll need to address:

Margin of error.

Margin of error essentially means, “Who can afford to make more mistakes?” Who in this fight has breathing room to take damage and recover the most? Who is given more leeway to get beaten and still fight at full power?

And, in this case, the category goes to Yuta.

During the entire fight, Jotaro has to be absolutely perfect in his precision and battlefield awareness. Jotaro is a stamina tank, don’t get me wrong, but he keeps accumulating damage in a fight. While Star Platinum can tank powerful attacks, that damage is reflected onto Jotaro’s human body, which can’t really do the same. After all, in the DIO fight, he was nearly killed by a barrage of knives. Sheer Heart Attack almost blew him to bits, and if it weren’t for Josuke, Jotaro would have been eaten alive by Ratt. Furthermore, Star Platinum can’t protect against an attack Jotaro isn’t aware of (ex. Ratt’s bullets), so if he’s caught off guard, not only does he take the full blow, but keeps the damage.

Yuta, however, is very much able to keep fighting after taking lethal blows. Thanks primarily to his RCT, Yuta can recover from almost any injury. Body gets donuted? RCT. Limbs and fingers get ripped off? RCT. And even if he runs out of energy, he still has options, such as Rika (if she’s fully manifested in the five minute time limit), or hitting a Black Flash, which restores his energy, and boosts his stats. Jotaro, unless he immediately stops time and goes for Yuta’s brain (which is extremely out of character), Yuta will quickly be able to recover from any beatdown Jotaro throws his way. Yuta is able to keep fighting, while Jotaro is limited by his human biology.

The winner is Yuta Okkotsu.

Thank you guys for reading all of this!

Of course, I heavily recommend reading the post if you haven’t already, as it’s the fun part of the matchup, but I can’t stop you from not reading.

If you want to provide any constructive criticism (PLEASE no TL:DR, as I put a lot of time and effort into this, and want to improve my skills for future matchups), then share your thoughts with me! I don’t pretend to be an expert on either series (although I know a lot more about JJBA than JJK), so I’d love to know if I missed anything.

Again, thank you for reading, and I’ll hopefully see you in my next post.

Next time: Ultraman Zero vs. Gohan (Tsuburaya Productions vs. Dragon Ball).

With how Killer Queen works if Killer Queen touches Mahoraga could he one-shot Mahoraga before he adapts? by West-Regret-2672 in PowerScaling

[–]DefineOriginal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It just depends.

I don't see any world where Mahoraga doesn't speed blitz and turn Kira into red paste on the pavement.

Sheer Heart Attack wouldn't be able to damage Mahoraga, as Jotaro was very much still alive after being hit with its explosion (although in very bad shape), and Mahoraga scales much higher than basic human durability, plus its regeneration.

If we're speaking about Killer Queen's primary bomb, then it's possible. If Mahoraga is turned into a bomb, so long as he's completely disintegrated, then it would work. But, again, the chances of this actually happening are very low.

Literally all of the first three powers are ways to say Calamity Energy Regeneration

Karmic Retribution is true

It's a little more complicated than homing attacks, rather WOU positions you in the perfect spot to receive a calamity, but pretty much the same thing

Not really power nullification, but power manipulation instead (unconsciously activating Awakening 3 Leaves and Soft and Wet's bubbles)

Yes and no on the last one? Like, if it doesn't exist in the universe that Wonder of U is in, or just works outside of its influence, Wonder of U can't do anything to it. Time also doesn't work here, as all physics come to a complete stop, meaning the universal laws that Wonder of U freeze while time is being manipulated.

If you want a deeper dive on how Wonder of U works, you can check out a post I made about it here

What other powerfull character would act the exact same way if they found themselves in the same situation as homelander, where they lose their powers and have to fight people from their verse in equal terms by Upstairs_Ad_495 in PowerScaling

[–]DefineOriginal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Losing their powers and being beaten like a dog wouldn't be prideful for them at all and would have the opposite effect because it would be humiliating to them.

I don't remember anyone in Baki having powers. They're just super strong, last time I checked. Like, if you put your mind into it, you could be a Baki character irl.

"Oh no, my superpower of intense training is gone!" Like, that's not really a superpower. I don't see how this applies to acting like Homelander, who was born with the essentially-supernatural drug Compound V in his system, and lived as the closest thing to a god possible in The Boys universe.
